As I started to think about the topics I had hoped to cover in the “What is…” series – I began to realize that I may be taking on more than I can handle, but we will see. I have twelve “What is” topics that I want to focus on; a few of them include the gospel, evangelism, theology, the church, sin, salvation. I am going to try to be regular about posting them, but I also don’t want to feel “rushed” to get onto the next topic. While I’m a little late in starting it for Lent, I think it will be a good Lenten practice…to sit and reflect on these theological topics, to allow the perspectives of scripture and others to influence, shape and form my own beliefs as we all wrestle with some important questions together.
I plan to post the initial questions on Mondays and have the post open for comments throughout the week, and then on Fridays, I will try to post some reflections. NOTE: I am viewing this theological process as a journey, and I hope we use this as a place to creatively think through our theology of these topics. I clearly acknowledge, before the series of posts begins, that the reflections I post consist of my theological beliefs at this point in my life; knowing that they may change in many ways throughout my life based on new experiences, new understandings of scripture and tradition, and many other things I can’t even fathom right now.
I only ask that those who engage in this process be open to each and every person’s theological thoughts they share on this site. Let the fun begin!
