I first ran across Carol Howard Merritt last fall. Her husband (pastor and blogger Brian Merritt) informed me about her blog, Tribal Church, and her book, also called Tribal Church. Carol is graduate of Austin Theological Seminary and is currently a Presbyterian pastor at Western Presbyterian Church in Washington, D.C and a friend of presbymergent. [...]

After noticing that insane and overwhelming popularity of presbymergent, Karen Ward is behind the efforts in the recent launch of a similar group for Anglicans: Anglimergent. Anglimergent has launched as a “relational network of Anglicans engaging emerging church and mission.” Anglimergent.ning.com (live now) is a peer2peer site for deep conversations among emerging Anglican practitioners of [...]

February 1, 2008
Presbyterian pastor, 30-something and Presbymergent Bruce Reyes-Chow was recently endorsed by San Francisco Presbytery to run (or stand, as the PC(USA) lingo goes) for Moderator at this summer’s General Assembly in San Jose. We experienced one of Atlanta’s [...]
Can presbymergent Save the PC(USA)?
November 21, 2007
Presbymergent has continued to gain steam, and more and more people have begun to connect with it (we’re over 200 on our Facebook group and we have 199 contributors on the website). I’ve found it’s a very odd phenomenon to watch something that I helped to start grow bigger than I had initially expected. I [...]

Last week we had the Presbymergent Conference at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. I already wrote a brief report of the conference here, but I thought I’d mention a few things here:
Brian Wallace and the crew from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary did an amazing job putting together this conference, and they deserve a ton of credit.
We had a [...]

October 6, 2007
Many of you know that I will be presenting the following workshop at the Always Reforming: Emergence in the Presbyterian Church Conference in a week (it’s not too late to register).
Presbymergent Polity 101: Worship, Sacraments and (Dis)Order
Many view the Book of Order as a rigid, rule-focused guide for saying more about what one “can’t” do [...]
