Suggestions for a new Blog Series

I’ve been privileged to host two different blog series on Pomomusings before, the first on the Kingdom of God and the second on pluralism. It’s been over a year and a half, and I’m getting antsy for some good collaborative theological discussions on the site. There are some usual suspects that I’ll probably be asking to write, but I’m always looking for new voices to be guest bloggers, and I have some new folks I’m planning to ask as well.

But first we need…a topic. So we’ve covered eschatology and pluralism/interfaith stuff. I think we’ll stay away from sexuality for the time being, considering there are already some great memes out there covering that topic (for those Presbyterians who are interested).

So what do you think would be interesting to hear from a host of folks about? Is there a pressing theme or topic out there that you think we would all benefit from hearing others write about? Share your thoughts in the comments and we’ll start getting things in the works for a new blog series in the spring.

It’s Really All About God: A Review

7287585While I’m sure many of you have already heard about this book, I wanted to add my $0.02 about Samir Selmanovic’s new book, “It’s Really All About God: Reflections of a Muslim Atheist Jewish Christian.” A couple years ago, I ran into Samir at the Everything Must Change event and had a great conversation about the work that he does as a part of Faith House Manhattan. I think the interfaith work and service that they are doing is really amazing and truly an example of the working out of the kingdom of God in the here and now. But that’s not a very popular idea with some. The blog post I wrote about that idea actually caused a job possibility to not work out (which, not that I can look back on the situation, truly was an unexpected gift – I would not have been happy serving at that particular church).

All of that is just to say that I admire and respect Samir for the work he’s doing and was very excited to read his book. Below are just a few thoughts about why you should pick up this book.

Theology Pub in Livermore

Since starting up our church’s Theology Pub, there have been a few folks who have asked how it’s gone and what we’ve talked about. We’ve only had it two weeks, but I think both weeks have been successes and so I’ll share about them briefly, as well as some additional thoughts.

Advertising

I tried to go with a dual-approach for advertising about our Theology Pub. I had hoped that this would be something that young adults in our congregation would be interested in. However, it’s something that we open up to all people in the congregation. Partially because I really enjoy it, but also because I wanted to put up some posters around town, I designed a different poster for each week (see below). I put up posters in Starbucks, Peet’s and Panama Red (a local coffeehouse that is right across the street from the First Street Alehouse). The first week I asked people if I could put up the posters, but after that, I just walked in and put them up.
