Renew America Together Video by Youth Group

Obama has called for a service initiative called Renew America Together. They ran a video contest to get the word out about what service is and why it’s important to different people. I thought it would be a good chance to try out the Flip minoHD and get the youth together to do something creative. They did an awesome job. We did the interviews and editing in just about one hour. One of the freshman girls in our youth group did all the editing (I just stuck the music in the background after she had to leave). She did an amazing job and the end result is pretty great. You can watch the video below. The winners of the contest receive a personal phone call from Michelle Obama, which would be cool. For the video, I simply asked the youth what they thought service was and why it was important to them – they also shared some of the past service projects they’ve been a part of. Enjoy!

Book Blog for Barack Obama: An American Story

Zondervan/Youth Specialties has come out with a book entitled Barack Obama: An American Story. It is co-written by Ariele Gentiles and Bob Carlton (who is a good friend). I haven’t had a chance to look at the book yet, but I’m sure it will be an interesting read.

They have set up a great book blog for the book. You can find the website here. Currently, the top article is written by Sara Miles, another wonderful writer who you should all know about. It looks like it’s going to be a really interesting site, so I’d encourage you to check it out. Each week they plan on donating some money to an NGO – this week they are donating money to the Southern Christian Leadership Conference.
