Cleave Design
I currently do freelance web & graphic design part-time. I have had many years of experience working with web & graphic design. I primarily do work for small non-profits, churches and religiously-affiliated organizations, and personal websites and blogs, but I am willing to talk with you about other web or print media projects. If you want to see my portfolio, and learn more about the type of work I do, please visit Cleave Design.
Cleaker 3.0 Wordpress Theme
Below you can download my first WordPress Theme, Cleaker 3.0. Cleaker is a variation of the theme used on this site, so take a look around (you can also click on the image on the right to see a small screenshot), and if you like what you see, you can download the theme below. I designed this theme while using WordPress 2.1 on my site, so I can’t guarantee that it will work with earlier versions of WordPress - but give it a try.
Because I am so busy with a full school load, lots of Cleave Design business and everything else, I’m not going to have a lot of time to be able to provide support for those of you who choose to use the theme - but in the tradition of the WordPress open source community, I hope you take it, play with it, tweak it, etc. Also, thanks to Chris Webb for widgetizing Cleaker.

Donate
Do you think this theme is worth $1? If so, consider leaving a donation of $1 through this PayPal Donate Now link. Or, if you were so inclined, maybe even splurge and leave $1.35 since PayPal takes out a $0.35 fee. Larger donations are welcome too - but $1 is plenty for me, and it will help free me up to continue to produce high-quality themes like Cleaker.

Changelog
- 08-07-08: Cleaker 3.0 Released - some very minor changes made so that it would be accepted by the new WordPress Theme Directory. A more complete update will be happening this fall.
- 03-20-07: Cleaker 2.1 Released. Small changes were made to the Stylesheet, formatting of blockquotes and a few changes to comments.php and sidebarleft.php.
- 02-20-07: Cleaker 2.0 Released to general public.

well done! Thanks for taking time to give a little something back to the WP community.
February 22nd, 2007 at 5:06 pm
Great theme! Very nicely done. Thank you :)
February 25th, 2007 at 1:29 am
I am quite enamored with your theme (as well as the one you designed for your wife’s site) and as such, decided to use it for my site. However, I have been sitting here struggling with what I imagine is a very easy fix. I cannot for the life of me seem to get the left sidebar to work. Have you seen this problem before?
I appreciate any time you may be able to throw toward me. Again, very nice themes. I really like your style.
February 25th, 2007 at 1:47 pm
Jason - shoot me an email and maybe we can troubleshoot it sometime this week.
February 28th, 2007 at 7:46 pm
Nice! I just hope I get Blackthorne out soon.
March 1st, 2007 at 3:59 am
I love Cleaker. I only have one question: Will there ever be a widgetized version of Cleaker in the near future? I’m looking at this site that instructs people on how to widgetized a theme, but I’m still clueless.
March 1st, 2007 at 6:05 am
The Flickr Photo Album plugin doesn’t seem to work well with Cleaker.
March 1st, 2007 at 8:11 am
Can, there aren’t any immediate plans for me to widgetize it - not because I don’t want to, but I just don’t have any time. If someone out there wants to, I will offer it here. And if I get some free time, I may try to work on it.
Which Flickr Photo Album plugin are you talking about? Do you have a page where you could show me how it’s not working well?
March 6th, 2007 at 8:26 pm
Hi Adam,
I’m playing around with Cleaker now (which is absolutely beautiful, by the way).
What plugin, if any, are you using for your Technorati tags? I have been using UTW, but don’t know if I want to mess with all the hassle of adding that in…
March 6th, 2007 at 10:51 pm
I am using UTW. Found it pretty simple to add in the links to the posts.
March 7th, 2007 at 9:27 am
Here is a great review done about Cleaker 2.0.
March 12th, 2007 at 6:59 am
Nice themes… comparable to subtle default in my opinion…
one request thou… could you add sidebar widget function to this theme?!
March 13th, 2007 at 3:59 am
I am happy to be the 1st person to download your widgetized Cleaker.
March 13th, 2007 at 4:25 am
I was very excited abt this but i guess the widgets are not working. Please do reconfirm the same.
March 13th, 2007 at 4:44 am
Adam - I love the theme, and have already taken to hacking away at bits of the CSS and images to see what I end up with. I used the non-widget version, as by luck, i downloaded and installed apparently mere minutes prior to you posting the widgetized version of the theme. I’ll stick with pasting in scripts in the sidebar php files I guess. :-) Again, thanks for putting this together and letting us all use it. -Kevin
March 13th, 2007 at 4:46 am
actually adam, one follow up question in case you have the time to answer - on flickr feeder in the sidebar, how did you make the background transparent?
March 13th, 2007 at 8:42 am
Looking forward to the widgetized version as the download file does not seem to be any different from the earlier non-widgetized version (despite your annoucement).
March 13th, 2007 at 8:55 am
@Justin - Did you install Wordpress’s Sidebar Widget Plugin?
March 13th, 2007 at 9:06 am
Hi Chris,
I have the Sidebar but still does not work!!
Sucharith
March 13th, 2007 at 9:43 am
Justin and Sucharith: I’m sorry - it was late when I uploaded it last night. The correct .zip file was uploaded, but the download link still went to the non-widgetized version. I apologize. The widgetized version is now up - and please remember to read the README file if you need information on installing the Widget plugin or anything else. Have fun and let me know if it works fine for you.
March 13th, 2007 at 9:46 am
Thanks a ton for the quick update !!! Love your theme!! G8 job mate…
March 13th, 2007 at 9:46 am
Hi Adam, GREAT theme, i really love it….
hey i’m having trouble also with the widgetized version…. i uploaded that theme, then installed a fresh/updated widget plugin from automattic…
any thoughts???
the site is at revoweb.net
March 13th, 2007 at 9:54 am
Mark, I would try a fresh download and make sure you’re using the correct, Widgetized version. In the zip file you downloaded, the README file should talk about Widgets. If it doesn’t, you don’t have the right version.
March 13th, 2007 at 9:57 am
hey Adam, thanks, it’s funny i think i missed it this am, by just a few minutes… but i got it now! thanks a ton!
March 14th, 2007 at 7:40 am
Just checking…. is this widget compatible?
March 14th, 2007 at 5:40 pm
Hi Adam:
Just want to echo the question Kevin left yesterday:
actually adam, one follow up question in case you have the time to answer - on flickr feeder in the sidebar, how did you make the background transparent?
I’m wondering the same thing….
Thanks in advance!
March 18th, 2007 at 10:01 am
How do you get the tag icons next to the topics? They look amazing - I am sure it is something I am just overlooking - this is just a GREAT theme and I have been looking FOREVER so Thank You Adam!
March 19th, 2007 at 8:46 am
Can you please let me know how to add related posts using the Simple Tagging Plugin?
March 23rd, 2007 at 9:05 pm
Hello! Beautiful theme.
I deleted the search box from the header–it was perfect in FF, but in IE it overlapped with the title. (I hate IE, but most of my readers use it.)
One question: how do I make the names of post authors appear above the post? I have a multi-author blog. Thank you!
March 24th, 2007 at 7:14 pm
Currently, I’m trying your theme. Your theme is a fine work. Thanks a lot for your job.
March 26th, 2007 at 6:51 am
Nice Theme. Thank you Mark.
I modified, changing and adjusting it for my litte Site.
March 28th, 2007 at 4:52 pm
This is a nice theme. I made my friend use it for her site: http://theblogworld.net
I think she likes it too. :)
April 3rd, 2007 at 9:30 am
I DO LIKE IT!
April 7th, 2007 at 1:14 pm
Thanks, this is nice. I am using it now and may just have found something I can stick with.
I am going to try to take out the search and put in my tagline.
I have been floating around from theme to theme ever since I moved from to a self hosted blog. I think I may have found it.
April 12th, 2007 at 10:54 am
Hi,
using cleaker 2.0 and I very much like it.
I would like to know if it is possible to edit the theme to allow it to grow left or right…I find it a little narrow…especially when adding pictures to a post or page.
Any information is appreciated.
LRZ
April 16th, 2007 at 3:26 am
LRZ…yes it is very easy. I’ve written a small tutorial at my site and provided a modified version of it at my site here
April 16th, 2007 at 11:42 am
excellent….thanks!
April 17th, 2007 at 11:25 pm
Hi, first off, thanks for the great theme. I hope you are having a good career designing, you obviously know what you’re doing! Quick question, all of a suddent I’m having a strange problem. Your theme will ‘dissapear’ and leave wordpress to fall back on the default. This happens automatically.
I upgraded to the latest version of wordpress, and the same problem happened. I removed the default theme, so your theme was alone, and then my page just didnt load. When i logged in as admin, and checked the themes area, i had NO themes. So i checked in the ftp, theme was there. So I duplicated the folder, made a cleaker1, and refreshed the admin/theme webpage, and bam, BOTH themes were there and the site looked normal. Any idea? Ghost in the machine?
April 18th, 2007 at 3:45 pm
Eric Smith:
Are you using the wp-mobile plugin? I had the same issue until I disabled it.
April 24th, 2007 at 1:37 am
Just wondering if you supply the matching overlay image for the Flickr Feeder widget?
April 24th, 2007 at 3:24 pm
Hey Adam, the design looks excellent. I’m just in the early stages of experimenting with possibly having my own hosted blog, and this just might be the one!
I think the comments rss at the footer mistakenly goes to chris webb’s feedburner.
question. i’m fairly code illiterate, how’d you get your tagline into the header? I seem to only be able to get the blog title imported into it.
April 26th, 2007 at 2:52 am
Hi,
I have just shifted over to your theme. Its really excellent theme.
thanks again
April 26th, 2007 at 1:43 pm
@ Lon - Chris is using a image header with the blog title and tagline in the image.
He is not getting the tagline from the code.
May 1st, 2007 at 9:50 am
Love this theme. Messed a bit with it for an athletics site. Don’t mind the language. It’s sort of gibberish :)
May 2nd, 2007 at 1:52 pm
Thank you for a great theme.
May 5th, 2007 at 6:44 pm
Really nice theme.. I’m using it on my new blog :D
thanks alot
May 10th, 2007 at 5:20 am
Very nice works. I’m working to migrate your theme for my blog.
I suggest to put 2 columns at the left and at the right (not the boths at right), I think it’s more accessible :-)
Thanks
May 15th, 2007 at 3:27 am
Really Nice Blog Theam, user friendly theam, i have download and also recommend to all.
Thanks
May 16th, 2007 at 1:30 pm
Didn’t read through all the comments to see if it’s been mentioned before, but Cleaker doesn’t seem to like IE 6 out of the box (I think I even tested this site). I fixed it by changing the content width to 500px from 510 (I think). Great design however.
May 18th, 2007 at 10:03 am
I love the theme, but seem to be having a couple issues.
The theme keeps switching back to the default theme randomly and this was both on wordpress 2.1 and now 2.2 - and I don’t have wp-mobile installed or enabled, which was a known issue.
secondly, for some reason I don’t get emails when people comment, even though i have the ‘email me whenever’ item checked off. but i don’t think it’s a cleaker theme issue.
Any help would be super, I’ll be looking for help via the wp support forums as well
May 20th, 2007 at 5:18 am
Hi,
I’m amazed to see that you have churned such a nice layout. It really made the content very much visible the moment I entered the site. Moreover the left aligned text and fit-in header has helped the design look even more fantastic.
I had a quick question - How can I change the color of the design to match same as yours; alike on this very website.
I would appreciate an early reply. Again, this is real good stuff, and I hope WP acknowledges it pretty soon.
May 26th, 2007 at 9:27 pm
Hi, Adam.
I’m using your beautiful theme in my site. But there’s some problem when it’s viewed in IE 6.0. The sidebar alignment isn’t working well. The left sidebar it’s going under the right sidebar. See for yourself:
http://www.velocidade.org
How can I fix this in the CSS? Please, help me.
tks,
Anderson - Sao Paulo, Brazil
May 29th, 2007 at 11:09 am
Hey,Adam,
I also have the same problem as Anderson’s.
It has such problem when i use IE to open a comment, while no such issue within Firefox or some other browser using Gecko core.
I had a test on it,while i add a text1 in sidebar1,it will appear that proble, remove it or put it to sidebar2,the problem will go away.I am desirous to wish you could fix it.
Due to my limited English,i may not explain it clearly, sorry.
June 2nd, 2007 at 5:32 pm
Thanks for posting this, I’m new to all this stuff
but I’m enjoying reading up on it all
and finding out everyones points of view
June 7th, 2007 at 12:53 pm
Anderson, spark, see my previous comment about adjusting the content width to fix the IE issues.
June 14th, 2007 at 11:42 am
i finally got the template working by switching hosting sites for some reason. Anyhow, it’s sweet, and the $1.35 donation is on it’s way! thanks so much, looking forward to future developments.
June 27th, 2007 at 3:29 pm
Hey man! Love the theme. I know you’re busy, but I was just curious if it was possible to have a specific header for a specific page with this theme?
Thanks!
Todd
June 27th, 2007 at 4:09 pm
Todd, that is most likely very possible, using some Page Templates or something. Anyone want to help Todd with this? Sorry man - I just don’t have time right now to look into this. Best of luck - I’d recommend searching the WordPress Codex for information on Page Templates or how to change headers on different pages.
June 27th, 2007 at 6:06 pm
Hi Adam,
This theme is great but for some reason it isn’t working with the Exec-PHP plugin. This is making it really difficult to use a php within a post. Do you know what might be going wrong?
July 7th, 2007 at 8:43 am
Hi, Im still trying to turn the rightsidebar transparent.A few people here brought it up, and I dont think anybody solved it
Can you give me any tips?
I mean transparent like how you have both sidebars.
August 4th, 2007 at 9:45 pm
Hi, I just installed your theme. I really like it! But I have encountered a small problem: I have not really changed anything about the templates but for some reason the CSS formatting for images is not working. I saw that there is a formatting included in the original stylesheet and I would have actually wanted it to be very similar to that, but it isn’t working. Do you have any idea why? I’d really appreciate your help. Thanks and have a great Sunday!
August 9th, 2007 at 3:49 pm
This is such an awesome theme design! Keep up the good work, and I hope that you put out other good themes in the future! Also, this one of the first times I saw a great theme for download with both regular and wigitized versions - for that I’m very appreciative!
August 11th, 2007 at 12:49 pm
thanks alot.
using it at http://atomise.net
August 14th, 2007 at 11:35 pm
I really love this blog theme. We have used it on one of our websites at http://www.tuggeranongindoormarket.com.au/ and we also just wrote up a blog post about it on our Affiliate Blog. Excellent work.
August 31st, 2007 at 9:17 am
Wonderful theme, thank you! Using it on my political blog. Cheers!

September 1st, 2007 at 6:03 pm
Adam - really like the cleaker theme (using the primary, not widgetized). I modified aspects of the overall design to integrate it into the rest of my site, and incorporated some additional core functionality, including Extended Live Archives in the sidebar. Keep up the great work - looking forward to seeing more of your designs.

September 3rd, 2007 at 4:08 pm
Hello! Loved your theme, already downloaded it!
Could you please tell me wich plugin do you use to open your images in a wider window?
tks,

September 8th, 2007 at 5:54 pm
Nice theme! I’m always impressed by people that have an eye for something appealing without being too “fancy”. I like simple, clean designs like this. Thanks!
September 23rd, 2007 at 1:10 pm
Adam,
Do you know, yet, if Cleaker will work with WP 2.3? It seems like a pretty substantial change, and I’m just wondering if you’ve seen anything which gives you reason to think Cleaker might break if we upgrade…
September 23rd, 2007 at 1:13 pm
GKB, that’s a good question, and to be honest, I’ve gotten a little lazy myself, and I’m still running 2.1 - so I don’t know. I wonder who will be the first to try Cleaker with WordPress 2.3? Any takers? I don’t know - if there are any problems, obviously I’ll try to fix them, but I haven’t heard of any problems, but don’t know if anyone has tried it with 2.3 yet. Sorry I can’t help more.
September 23rd, 2007 at 6:42 pm
I’m using a modified version of the Cleaker theme with a wp2.3rc1 install. The only change to the core theme that I made was to insert the new “tag” code into the index and single pages.
Find:
Before “Posted in” insert the following (in both the index and single page)
To see this in action, follow this link: Cold Coffee
dKaye
September 23rd, 2007 at 6:45 pm
ok - it stripped the necessary code from my previous comment (please read). will do it minus the code…
In index and single pages …
Find: p class=”postmeta”
Before “Posted in” insert the following: ?php the_tags(’Tags: ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘. ‘); ?
Be sure to include the angle brackets before and after.
dKaye.
September 23rd, 2007 at 8:42 pm
So my question is - why would I switch from using Ultimate Tag Warrior and the Technorati tags to WordPress’s new tagging deal? I’d have to go through and redo everything….
September 23rd, 2007 at 11:22 pm
Is anyone having problems getting the widgets to work? I am using WordPress 2.2 so I don’t think that I need to install the widgets plugin. However, when I go to the widgets tab in the admin panel, I cant drag the widget boxes into the sidebars. Can anyone help me?
September 25th, 2007 at 4:05 am
I am having issues with text widgets and also with foreign characters after upgrading from 2.2.1 to 2.2.2. I think some of this may have to do with Fantastico (the characters) but wonder if anyone else had their text widgets disappear after the upgrade???
See this discussion on the Wordpress.org forums:
http://wordpress.org/support/topic/135544?replies=1#post-620603
September 25th, 2007 at 6:21 am
Nobugs,
My widgets keep disappearing too. I also have a fantastico WordPress upgrade to 2.2.2.
September 27th, 2007 at 8:02 pm
Hi,
I upgraded to 2.3 . Well I have the following on my index page :
WordPress database error: [Table 'wp_categories' doesn't exist]
SELECT cat_name FROM wp_categories ORDER BY cat_name ASC
WordPress database error: [Table 'wp_post2cat' doesn't exist]
SELECT p2c.category_id AS cat_id, COUNT(p2c.rel_id) AS numposts, UNIX_TIMESTAMP(max(posts.post_date_gmt)) + ‘-4′ AS last_post_date, UNIX_TIMESTAMP(max(posts.post_date_gmt)) AS last_post_date_gmt FROM wp_post2cat p2c INNER JOIN wp_posts posts ON p2c.post_id=posts.id WHERE (posts.post_status=’publish’ OR posts.post_status=’static’) AND posts.post_date_gmt
September 27th, 2007 at 8:32 pm
I am getting this error.
WordPress database error: [Table 'mmoexplo_wrdp4.wp_post2cat' doesn't exist]
SELECT cat_ID AS ID, MAX(post_modified) AS last_mod FROM `wp_posts` p LEFT JOIN `wp_post2cat` pc ON p.ID = pc.post_id LEFT JOIN `wp_categories` c ON pc.category_id = c.cat_ID WHERE post_status = ‘publish’ GROUP BY cat_ID

September 27th, 2007 at 8:56 pm
Anyone have any idea why this error? I haven’t upgraded to 2.3 yet, so I don’t know what’s up with that….
September 27th, 2007 at 9:19 pm
Hi Adam. I rudely discovered UTW is not supported in 2.3. However, ELA (Extended Live Archives) is, and it uses tags. As well, a plugin called Simple Tagging works in place of the still rudimentary WP2.3 tagging system. I’m using both the ELA for my archives, and the Simple Tagging for my sidebar cloud.
For those experiencing the problems with upgrades to 2.3 and tables, note that the database structure has changed. For that reason, I opted not to upgrade, but did a clean install instead. While it took some time to marry up the imported data between the 2 versions, I’m happy I went that route. What I’m not happy about is that the wordpress folks are already at work on wp2.4.
September 27th, 2007 at 10:40 pm
Concerning my problem… sorry it’s not the theme.
It was because of some plugins that are not compatible with 2.3 :
- Add Meta Tags
- SEO Title Tag
- Simple Tagging

I’m getting the database error too. Help!
October 4th, 2007 at 7:32 pm
Hi, love the theme but… I couldn’t get the comments working in my other pages such as “About”. Maybe when I get some time I’ll try to figure out what’s wrong but in the mean time, I used another theme :(
October 5th, 2007 at 10:13 am
Nice theme, will surely give it a try and donate…

October 5th, 2007 at 1:47 pm
not meaning to interject here .. but - to address fusionhead’s question above relative to pages and inability to comment:
To counter this - using the “single” template - copy the commenting code and insert into your default “page” template. Then you can control whether or not you want comments via the page options.
October 8th, 2007 at 9:25 pm
One of the best wordpress templates I’ve ever seen. Congratulations!
October 11th, 2007 at 4:36 pm
That’s a beautiful design. Thanks.
October 12th, 2007 at 10:10 am
I ve seen your theme in works ..it is really simple and beautiful.
October 14th, 2007 at 1:55 am
I have downloaded your theme. Will try it out later. I am sure i am going to like it for sure. Thanks!
October 15th, 2007 at 11:50 pm
Adam,
Nice looking theme. Could you tell me how you get your images to open (with what I assume is flash) like that. I’ve seen it on Joomla sites before but can’t seem to find the right plugin/widget/code for wordpress.
Thanks!
October 18th, 2007 at 1:04 pm
Great job! I’m not a programmer and I found myself easy to tweak the theme. But I have some questions.
- How do you add buttons to the nav bar? I’ve seen that is done maybe in header.php. I’d like to use the cleanarchives page.
- Is it possible to put the contents column in the middle of the side bars? I’ve tried modifying the styless.css but seems that both sidebars are nested in a big one, so is impossible to move one of them without moving the other.
You can view my results at
http://www.enezeta.com/zapateces
Thanks!
October 19th, 2007 at 12:25 pm
Thank you for a very nice theme.
I redesigned it to give my blog a new look. I don’t think anyone would know it’s the Cleaker design if I didn’t have your credit in the footer, but I really liked the original design, too. :)
October 30th, 2007 at 2:36 pm
Nice designs, Adam. I’m just starting to learn how to edit and make some WordPress themes myself. It feels good to make something from your bare hands doesn’t it :)
November 2nd, 2007 at 3:06 pm
Hello,
How can I use this theme? I have my blog at http://www.blogspot.com ?
Thanks
Steve
November 8th, 2007 at 2:22 pm
I can’t seem to get javascript to work with this theme. I’m using post ratings and comments quicktags plugins. For some reason neither seems to load.
November 8th, 2007 at 2:46 pm
I fixed one of my problems. At some point in messing around with stuff, I managed to delete the call to the ratings function. So, that’s fixed. However, I still don’t see quicktags.
...
...
Since this problem is now apparently affecting one plugin, I’ll bug the plugin’s author to see if the problem’s on his end.
November 8th, 2007 at 2:47 pm
Let’s try that code again…
...
<?php if (function_exists('lmbbox_comment_quicktags_display')) { lmbbox_comment_quicktags_display(); } ?>
<p></textarea></p>
...

Hi,
How to add a banner 468×60 under the search box in the header ?
Thanks.
November 16th, 2007 at 12:25 pm
Anyone else have problems in viewing this in Explorer? It is all screwed up, but in Firefox it is fine.
November 16th, 2007 at 2:13 pm
@olanning4ever
hmm..people still use internet explorer? bizzar.
….seriously, I can pull it up in ie just fine. Now that ie7..not sure about anything earlier.
November 16th, 2007 at 3:17 pm
I do have explorer 6 (I use Firefox…but most of my readers use explorer. they don’t know any better)
son - of - a - gun…..it’s working now! I am so not a programmer. grrhhhh sorry to bug. NICE template!
November 16th, 2007 at 3:20 pm
Has anyone upgraded wordpress? just wondering if the upgrade would break the template.

It works fine for me in IE, however, bullets in posts are screwed up in IE and look beautiful in mozilla type browsers. Grrrrr. At least they are not screwed up enough to motivate me to remove them. If anyone has any ideas to fix the bullets, I’d love to hear about it.
Thank you for a great and flexible theme!
November 18th, 2007 at 6:16 pm
I upgraded to WP 2.3.1, and the template works fine. :)
Adam, what plugin are you using for Recent Comments? I tried one, but it seems to put bullets way off to the left, and it’s not even calling for bullets. Very aggravating! Whichever one you’re using must be more cooperative.
Thanks for a wonderful theme, btw.

Hi!
After some tweakings and the help of DKaye i have finally achieved to run the theme with wordpress 2.3.1, but i wasn’t unable to run the flickr plugin. The only thing that displays after a long time loading are the photo tiles.
Has anyone run it in WP 2.3.1?
November 23rd, 2007 at 2:36 pm
I’ve seen a few sites implement the cleaker design so that rather then just taking a portion of the screen, it actually spans the full width of the page, regardless of what screen resolution is being used.
Would someone know what needs to be changed in the code so that I can have the same effect on my blog?
thx
Jason

I have the same problem with bullets. Does anyone have a suggestion for how to fix it?
November 26th, 2007 at 3:15 am
I LOVE cleaker 2.1. But I run a niche blog and a lot of my readers are not super net-savvy (a lot of them still use IE6 or even earlier). So they have always had trouble with some parts of the theme not looking right. After upgrading to 2.3.1, however, they can’t read the sidebars at all–it’s all a jumble of writing on top of itself. I hate to do it, but I am going to have to use another theme for awhile.

Hm. My political blog http://garlinggauge.com is having troubles with Internet Explorer as well, but all other browsers seem to work fine.
The navbar at the top is all wacky.
Any ideas on how to remedy the issue?
Thanks!

Hi Adam,
I found a small problem (which I notice is also on your site) with the archives page. If you look at the bio/description section on the left column, you will notice that the function the_author_description() doesn’t work. The same goes for the_author_nickname() and the_author_email(). I think it has to do with using the ‘Clean Archives’ as the page template, but I am not sure how to fix it. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi. I just installed your theme and tweaked it for my blog (I love the theme BTW). It doesn’t seem to be working in Firefox though. I use IE7 and have no problems, but when I view in Firefox the #content doesn’t seem to show and the sidebars are pushed to the bottom. Do you know how to fix this? I am just learning css and php so I don’t really understand how it all works!
December 27th, 2007 at 11:29 pm
Hey, I really love the Cleaker WordPress theme. I’ve been using it on my blog patrickdevivo.com and it’s been working great! I made some changes to it, to make things a little more personal. Be sure to check it out, and this post:

I wanted a new 3 column theme to start this year off right and Cleaker was a perfect choice. Try the widgetized version!

HELP! Can anyone tell me how to alter the color of the text in the comment section without altering the whole body? Dark blue on dark red is not working out. I’ve tried adding a new color in the CSS, but I must be getting it in the wrong place. Any help would be appreciated.
As always, thanks for a wonderful template!

Sweet theme…thanks!

How can I get this theme to show trackback links for others to use? Some themes have a trackback link when you leave comments, but cleaker I cannot find. I really like the theme, and would love it if I could set it up for trackbacks. Any help would be wonderful.

Was working fine until I upgraded to WP 2.3.2. Now I get this error when viewing a page:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: dlc_related() in /home/xxxxx/public_html/wp-content/themes/cleaker-21/single.php on line 9
Any ideas?
Thanks-
January 31st, 2008 at 3:55 am
the dlc_related() error has to do with the related posts plugin you are using on your blog. It most likely isn’t compatible with 2.3.2.. have you tried disabling it to try to pinpoint the problem?
February 6th, 2008 at 2:54 am
Great theme. Thanks for it!

How do I remove the “home” nagivation tab? Thanks a bunch.
February 9th, 2008 at 8:57 pm
Hi,
I love this theme and would like to upgrade to 2.3 because of the great plugins available. I have two sites using Cleaker. When I try to upgrade on both of them, I get this error:
Warning: exec() has been disabled for security reasons in /home/weirdthi/weirdthi_Cats/wp-content/plugins/wordpress-automatic-upgrade.0.8/wpau_db_backup.class.php on line 517
Does anyone know what this means? Thanks!
February 9th, 2008 at 9:02 pm
Oh, and another question. I want my home page to be “Weird Things” so that will show in the blue bar at the very top of the website instead of “Home”. But “Home” still shows in the navigation bar. How do I get rid of it? Thanks again.
February 9th, 2008 at 9:53 pm
Debbie,
My guess is it has to do with a plugin you’re using. You should disable all of them before you try to upgrade, and then reactivate one at a time, that way if one is causing a problem you’ll be able to tell which one.
The “Home” button….I see from your site that you’ve added “Weird Things” as a link in the Nav Bar, so you’ve found the code in the header. The easiest way would be to delete the link you added, and in the Nav code, just replace the word “Home” with “Weird Things”. IE:
<a href=”/”>Weird Things
There’s no way to change colors to show you where I changed it, but I’m sure you’ll see what I mean.
Hope that helps!
February 9th, 2008 at 9:56 pm
Ok, it didn’t let the code in, I should have know that! Email me if you need help. amomandherblogATgmailDOTcom.

Hello,
My sidebarLeft gets pulled under the first sidebar in IE6. Any ideas how I can fix that?
I’d like to place any IE specific CSS to “fix” that sidebar issue in an IE conditional statement.
Thanks in advance!
February 15th, 2008 at 3:18 am
Fixed It!!!!
In IE6, this is what I did:
/* #wrapper {width: 950px;} */
#content {
width: 500px;
margin-right: -5px;
float: left;
color: #000;
padding: 20px;
}
#sidebarLeft {
width: 75px;
float: right;
color: #000;
background: #D7D8C4;
padding: 20px 20px 20px 5px;
overflow: hidden;
}

Oops, my IE conditional statements were stripped out of my comment:
I placed that CSS in the header.php file, just before the end /head tag.
I used [ if lte IE 6 ]

For those who have been looking for an IE6 fix, Martin’s seems to work wonderfully. :)
February 16th, 2008 at 2:57 am
Rumor has it windows is making IE7 a mandatory update in one of the new updates to xp… so hopefully its coming to its end as it should.

When viewing a page with a left justified image in Firefox the margins around the image are null (text is positioned right against the image). Right justified images are fine. I tried adjusting the css data but nothing seems to affect it. IE looks correct.
Any ideas?
Thanks-

Hey Mike V.,
I’m just a visitor here, but I’d like to help if I can. Can you link to an example? Also, are you using CSS inline, external, or another means to place your image?
Thanks,
Martin
February 26th, 2008 at 5:05 pm
@Mike V. and
@Martin Espericueta
I’m running into the same problem in Firefox. I’ve tried commenting out the images styles in the stylesheet, but that doesn’t seem to work either.
Any super CSS gurus out there have some wisdom?
Thanks!
Dom

Any testing done with the new WordPress 2.5 and this theme? I’d like to update my blog to the new version, but I’m abit hesitant without theme testing.
Thanks,

Martin,
No, I haven’t played with 2.5 at all — but if changes need to be made to Cleaker, I’ll be sure and do those when 2.5 has been released.
March 19th, 2008 at 11:17 pm
Great, thanks for sharing

I just upgraded my site to WP 2.5 and I decided to try out the Cleaker theme. Looks good, although I think it still wants a little tweaking.
Thanks!

Great theme, Adam.
I’m having some difficulties with my left sidebar. The widget text is left-aligned in Firefox but is centred in IE7 and I’m not sure why. I’m using WordPress 2.5 and Cleaker 2.1.
Suggestions on how to fix it?
Thanks,
Paul
April 22nd, 2008 at 3:05 pm
Love the theme - working well with a bunch of plugins. Thank you!
Does anyone know how to create a static page with this theme where the page is NOT linked to in the navigation bar up top?
I’m trying to create a “privacy policy page” and link to the URL of that page from the blogroll or someplace, but I do not want to have a “Privacy Policy” page link up in the nav-bar.
Is is a matter of coding, or is it something easier than that that I am missing?
Thanks!
April 22nd, 2008 at 4:01 pm
@Scott,
Yes, there is a very easy way to do that. Open up header.php and look for this line towards the bottom:
< ?php wp_list_pages('sort_column=menu_order&depth=1&title_li='); ?>And replace it with something like this:
< ?php wp_list_pages('sort_column=menu_order&depth=1&title_li=&exclude=33,44'); ?>And be sure to replace 33 and 44 with the page IDs that you want to exclude from your navigation bar.
**Be sure to not have a space between the opening carrot (<) and the ?php**
April 22nd, 2008 at 4:43 pm
THANKS! I’ll give it a shot!
April 30th, 2008 at 10:53 am
Great theme, thanks for the info
May 3rd, 2008 at 9:15 pm
Still loving this theme! I had to use a plugin called “Page Link Manager” which fixed my issue above. It is also an excellent plugin to hide pages from the nav bar without any coding. Super cool and works like a charm!
QUESTION - Is there a way to have the author’s name posted with a post? Anyone know how to pull this off?
May 18th, 2008 at 12:31 pm
Great theme!
I’m gotta try it on my next blog. :D
cheers!
May 20th, 2008 at 8:29 am
hey Adam, any chance you’ll be releasing the current incarnation of your theme anytime soon? or do i need to hack around the old one myself?
May 24th, 2008 at 9:03 pm
Great theme man, I just downloaded it.
June 12th, 2008 at 9:17 pm
I dont get it :|
On my Site http://www.pagslife.de - the images are all “fu**ed” up….
see at /?p=101
Why is that?
Second question:
How can i make those “overlay” images like the pics in this post.. ?
June 12th, 2008 at 9:18 pm
Annnnnnnnnd an important question - how can i display trackbacks ? :|
June 13th, 2008 at 1:33 pm
I would like to make a donation to remove the footer link. If that’s OK please email me or reply here.
June 14th, 2008 at 9:30 am
Great one, simple but effective theme ever. Thanks

Hello, great theme. I really enjoy using it so thankyou very much. I have a question. I want all my post titles to be bold. What should I make to to this?
July 28th, 2008 at 3:43 am
Just found your theme and I am glad that I did. Nice work. Clean and easy to use is always a good way to go for a great Wordpress theme.
July 31st, 2008 at 10:22 pm
Adam,
I implemented Cleaker 2.1 (widgetized) in preparation for officially launching a new website. It was working fine until I upgraded to WordPress 2.6. Have you tested Cleaker with version 2.6? Anyone else having similar problems?
Thanks!
Bonnie
July 31st, 2008 at 11:56 pm
@Bonie Hello, I don’t use the widgetized theme, I use the other. And is working on Wordpress 2.6 with no problems. You should use the the other type of the theme because, now wordpress has widgets and you could easily edit you theme. Have fun!
