My Ordination #letsordainadam

#letsordainadam was the Twitter hashtag for my ordination today – and we did just that.

As I stood up front and began to hear Rev. Theresa Cho say “On behalf of the Presbytery of San Francisco…” I kept thinking to myself, “Really? Really? They’re really going to do it?”

It was a joy to be able to celebrate my ordination today with so many wonderful people. My parents and in-laws were there, a huge group of folks from Asbury United Methodist Church, where I served for over 3 years, two elders from the First Presbyterian Church of Ashland and many others were there to witness and be a part of a joyous celebration.

Caleb Elijah’s Baby Registries

A few weeks ago, Sarah texted me and said that her belly-button seems to have “popped” and she was wondering if that meant that Caleb was ready to come out. I know that she’s getting to the point in pregnancy where she would love for Caleb to come any day now. And I’m pretty excited about that too – but I also realize how much preparation we still have to do before that can happen!

We’ve been in Ashland, Oregon for about a week and a half now. Sarah’s parents are coming tonight or tomorrow, and they’re going to help us get the rest of our house unpacked, setup and put together. It’s going to be really helpful. Sarah’s dad will be working on the crib, which is a goodo thing, since I’ve heard that many marriages almost ended when the couple tried to work to put the crib together.

Starting a New Call

Well, today I started my new call. I’m the new Associate Pastor at First Presbyterian Church of Ashland, Oregon. And boy do I ever feel “new.” Don’t know many of the kids. Don’t know many of the wonderful church folk. Don’t know exactly how to use my phone. There’s lots of stuff I don’t know.

I went in to the church this morning and kind of got the lay of the land…had a short staff meeting…went into my office and sat down. And felt pretty completely overwhelmed.

It’s not anyone’s fault, but boy is there a lot to learn about a new call. Add to all that the fact that our church’s internet was slow…and I mean slooooooooow. But I made a quick phone call to our internet provider and it looks like that’s getting worked on, so that should be okay. Important things first, right?
