God, Rid me of God

After a week of playing Foursquare, I thought the group of middle and high school students I currently work with was ready for some….Jack Caputo and postmodern theology and philosophy? Sure, why not? These are smart kids.

I began by showing them some icons and talking about the importance of icons throughout church history. We then shared what some of our images of God were, and I passed out Play-Doh and encouraged the youth to spend some time (with Bon Iver playing in the background) molding their image of God with the Play-Doh. After everyone was done, we went around and shared our images; you can see some in the photo below.

How Technology is Changing Our Faith & Worship

I’m leading a workshop next month at Union Presbyterian Seminary, and I thought in typical wiki-fashion, I’d get some of your thoughts. The title of the workshop is “How Technology is Changing our Faith & Worship: Whether you Know it or Not” and this is the description:

We’ll also look at the ways in which the technology of our times can actually not only change the practices of our churches, but our theology as well – and whether that’s a good thing or not. Finally, we’ll look at some examples of practical ways that you can faithfully use technology in your worship gatherings.

A few weeks ago, Sarah and I talked about names…we had quite a few that we were tossing around. I don’t know exactly why, but I’ve been dragging my feet a bit about settling on a name…I did it with Micah and Judah as well, but love the names we chose for them. So, we took a walk and talked about some different options. There were probably about 8 first names we were talking about. A few days later, we tossed around a couple different middle names.

Early the next week, I wrote down a name and thought about it for awhile: Caleb Eli Walker Cleaveland (though I was also wondering about Caleb Elijah).
