I know what you’re thinking, and let me just apologize up front. I know that you were really hoping to see some BEFORE pictures, like so many people put up online when they talk about starting P90X. But unfortunately, while those photos were taken, you’re not going to see them…..yet. I decided that I would only share the BEFORE photos, if the AFTER photos were impressive enough to actually see some good results. So…we’ll see.
I’ve started up P90X and Weight Watchers again and I’m hoping that the combination of the two will get me into better shape and to a place where I feel healthier and more fit. It’s always fun to see people’s reactions when I saw I’m doing Weight Watchers; most say something like “Why? You look fine.” And even though it’s not like I look really unhealthy, I am at my highest weight ever and am about 20lbs heavier than I’d ideally like. So, the goal is about 154lbs if I can make that – but we’ll see. Anything in the 150s would be great – I started out at 176lbs.
Weight Watchers is one component of this program, and P90X is the other. I had thought about P90X in the summer, and my father-in-law ended up getting it and had started the program with one of his workout buddies. He brought the videos with him when my in-laws came out after we lost Micah and Judah, and Sarah and I started doing the workouts.
When we started, I could probably do about 15-20 pushups, max. And I tried to do a pull-up…and couldn’t. Not even one. And the workouts totally kicked my butt. We are now just starting Week 5, and I’m really loving it. Just last night, I did 40 pushups before going to bed, and was able to do 3 unassisted pull-ups (you can see a photo of the pull-up bar that my father-in-law rigged here). Which again, doesn’t sound that impressive, but is pretty good improvement in just 4 weeks.
So who knows what the results will be after the 90 days are up. But after only 4 weeks, I feel better, more fit, and stronger. We’ll see how things go, but I’m thinking of training for another half-marathon this spring. I’m looking forward to seeing how a combination of all of these things might help my health, weight and strength.
Anyone else out there doing P90X? What are your thoughts? Enjoying it? Seeing results? Hate it? Bringing your best, and forgetting the rest?

Adam, I’ve heard of the P90X program but don’t know anyone doing it besides you. What all is involved? Do you have to buy a bunch of stuff in order to follow it?
Basically you need some weights, just some dumbells, a yoga mat and you need a way to do pull-ups. So my father-in-law rigged up a pretty ghetto pull-up bar that works well, but a stationary one that you can put in a door frame or something would be great.
And that’s really all you need.
How did using weighwatchers instead of the meal plan workout? I’ve tried it and even though I’ve only done one week so far, I love it that and TurboJams. I keep jumping off the workout but I’m still working on getting back to it.
