You know it’s going to be a crappy day when you wake up like this.
And it didn’t get much better for Sadie. Sarah needed the car today, so I rushed her off to a Vet where you could drop her off for the day, and we left Sadie there, hoping she’d get better. They gave her some shots to get the swelling down, and that finally helped a little bit but her eye is still pretty swollen.
Perhaps she got stung or bit by something last night? Whatever it is did a real number to her. The swelling has now moved down to her paws and there was some other questionable stuff, so they took blood-work and we’ll know more by by tomorrow morning.
However, because her eye was bothering her so much, she kept pawing at it and rubbing it on the carpet. So, we didn’t have a choice - we had to get her one of those funky dog E-collars. She absolutely HATES it and refuses to move or walk when she’s wearing it. So we had to carry her and place her on the couch for the night. We took it off for a few minutes and she ran around, went to the bathroom, etc., but as soon as we put it back on her, she just froze. Very bizarre. Anyway - you can tell she doesn’t like her photo taken (below) with the E-collar on. We’re hoping to know more tomorrow - and hoping that it’s nothing too serious. At any rate, you can imagine that Sadie had a really terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day (more photos here).

All dogs hate thos collars. They have horrible peripheral vision and this adds to the problem! i’m so sorry and i hope she heals quickly!
Poor Sadie. Hopefully it’s just a bad bug bite. I’ve heard of dogs protesting by simply laying down and refusing to move when they have something on their head like that. Ours does it with the leader we use for walking. And our cats actually managed to break their e-collars off after they were fixed. Anyway, it’s perfectly normal–it’s the collar that’s bizarre!
She does look much happier in the pictures without the collar. Heck, I’m just glad that I’ve never had to wear one, or I’d probably refuse to do anything as well.
Sad sad sadie… :-(
Looks like a sting or, what some of our dogs have had in the past, they can get a piece of dirt or something caught in the tear duct or trapped in the tear duct area. Benadryl helps a lot. We live for that stuff in the summer months.
But it looks like she will have a round of cephalexyn (sp.?) to get the infection out.
Be of good cheer — Romeo, my big black lab (whom Sadie has met!), has endured the cone–hopefully for a lot longer than Sadie will have to. The corners of every wall and doorway in my house, and all the table legs at that height will never be the same, but that is a testimony to the fact that she will become active again and get used to the cone. In fact, enjoy the downtime before she realizes how effective it is as a battering ram.
I hate to see any dog look this sad. Hopefully puppy will be better soon.
Alas, poor Sadie! Give her a pat for me.
