In California, Getting Settled

in General

We stayed with friends in Fresno, CA last night and are now heading into Oakland this morning. The next few days are going to be pretty busy. We’re hoping to get our apartment put together over the next week, but it will involve some trips to IKEA and some searching on Craigslist for a kitchen table. We will be starting at Macrina on Sunday and then I take off for the General Assembly in San Jose the following Friday. We don’t have internet set up yet in our apartment (GASP…I know) so I don’t know how much we’ll be online. It’s been a good trip - long (3500 miles), but good. Some “This American Life” podcasts, music, audio books, talking, laughing at Sadie’s antics in the truck, good restaurants (Blue Star) and not-so-good restaurants (lunch & dinner at McDonald’s one day).

Finally - back to the West coast.

Welcome to California! Hope you enjoy your stay. Of course, I won’t be in California long enough to welcome you — I’m heading the other direction in a couple of weeks!

But, hey, besides the earthquakes you can’t beat California!

Do you like your apartment, not having seen it before moving there?

Welcome!

Hope you get settled well, BART and the 180 bus will get you to San Jose, leaving the car for Sarah.

Transfers to VTA (180 bus) are tricky, get a transfer from the BART station (Fremont) before leaving the paid area.
