Penske Woos Me, Once Again

So – we were all set to move with U-Pack/ABF until Penske called last night. Maybe they knew it was our anniversary. Maybe they knew I loved Penske trucks. But they offered us a really great price. I just got off the phone with them with our new Penske reservation. The total price for the truck for 10 days, plus a car tow-dolly, plus the free furniture pads and furniture dolly they threw in: $906.13. Seriously. That’s it. Now, we’re thinking about $1000 for gas, so that puts us at around $1900 – but that’s still $1000 less than the U-Pack/ABF quote.

So, Penske roadtrip #2, here we go.

So…did you have to agree to blog about them to get this great deal?

When do you head out?

See you on the road. We are begining our Penske road trip to Louisville. I hope they have CB’s. If so what is your handle?

That’s going to be quite the drive — 3,000 miles! Remember:

1. When driving something 100x larger than the Smart Car, safety first.
2. Slim Jims and coffee don’t mix.
3. This American Life — episodes of what is quite simply the best radio show / podcast ever can chew through an hour at a time.
4. You always have positive thinking to fall back on: you haven’t made the worst choice, namely, Uhaul.
5. Deodorant.

Blessings on the trip out west, bro.

When you have a chance, of course.

Drive safe, get lots of rest (don’t be afraid to pull over and catnap) and realize it’s about 30 percent slower than a car.

Looks like it will be a fun gig. The Bay Area hasn’t really gotten traction in the emerging paradigm, maybe you two can be the catalyst? A lot of what we learned in the dot-com boom needs to be translated into the emerging world, MHGS thinking may be useful. (I did not realize Mark Driscoll and the seminary are unconnected.) The old Marin-Peninsula locus of spirituality has waned, and a replacement hasn’t budded, yet.

Good luck, both of you!
