Climate Change: Protecting the Earth and All of God’s Creation

Date May 27, 2008

Fritz Gutwein, the Field Coordinator for the Climate and Energy Campaign of the National Council of Churches, is a friend of mine and asked me to share the following information with you all:

When Senators return from their Memorial Day recess they are scheduled to debate climate change legislation. Email your Senators and tell them you want justice for all of God’s Creation.

America’s Climate Security Act, co-sponsored by Senators Lieberman (I), Connecticut and Warner (R), Virginia, is a critical first step towards addressing global climate change.

We applaud the efforts of these Senators to find common ground on this critical issue and move forward with consensus legislation to address global climate change.

We urge the Senate to continue this path and take meaningful and measurable steps to:

  • follow scientific recommendations by reducing carbon emissions 15-20 percent by 2020 and 80 percent by 2050
  • shield vulnerable populations from the disproportionate dangers they will be exposed to as the planet warms and
  • limit the financial burdens placed on those living in poverty and low-income families by spreading costs of changing our energy habits fairly and sustainably.

Current legislation includes initial forms of these provisions and it is our hope they will be strengthened as this process moves forward.

Join with people of faith from around the U.S. to advocate for strong emissions reductions and justice for people in poverty and those who are most vulnerable to the impacts

I’m about halfway through Sallie McFague’s “A New Climate for Theology: God, the World, and Global Warming” and it ROCKS. If you’re interested in ecological theology whatsoever, and even if you aren’t, you should read it. She even has a whole section on what worship looks like in a postmodern, eco-aware age. Insane.

Thanks for the heads up, BTW.

Never! Al Gore invented the internet and he invented this. It has cooled in the past 10 years. We’re going to be experiencing more cooling. CO2 follows warming. Carbon is not a pollutant, it is tree food. The US has lowered “emissions” more than any other country and has crushed Kyoto signing countries. Global Warming is a hoax invented by the elitists to make billions more dollars while they ride lear jets and live in mansions. I recycle. I turn off lights. I will not let the government nationalize energy and take away my freedom to eat, drive, work, live, spend my money, and watch television…all of which will be legislated (think I’m kidding? Google it.).

I’m not arguing with you Adam…I argue with the fake scientists who are more concerned about birds than humans…we are part of God’s creation too.

These arguments are strawmen designed to pull our attention away from the truth. I am sorry to rant on this on your blog Adam. I am sorry that you and many more have been sucked in by “Big Environment”. There are 30,000 scientists 9,000+ phD’s in their field that have signed a petition to fight the “consensus” of Global Warming.

[please delete this message after you've read it] If my words were too harsh and you feel you need to delete them, please do. I feel kinda bad that I ranted on another persons blog. Not very good blog etiquette on my part. This is one subject that really ruffles my feathers. Thanks Adam.[/delete]
