Fridays are for New Music

Date January 25, 2008

This song has been out for awhile - I believe the first time I heard it was on Grey’s Anatomy. Decatur-born Michael Stipe, lead singer of R.E.M., put this song out after Katrina to benefit Mercy Corps. The song is “In the Sun.”

Great song. Written by and originally performed by Joseph Arthur (also sings on this song with Michael) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Arthur

joseph arthur’s original version is in my opinion the more powerful version. it’s a haunting, modern spiritual.

May God’s love be with you, always.

I agree, that version is excellent.

That’s a great song! The original version by Joseph Arthur is good too and that version appeared in the 2005-2006 season of Scrubs in an interesting episode about Dr. Cox not wanting his sister to be a part of his son’s baptism.

This is probably the best yet of new music Friday. I enjoy this song quite a bit.

The Joseph Arthur version of the song is in the movie Saved, which was produced by Michael Stipe…..ooohhh….freaky coincidence? I think not.
