Christmas cards are the equivalent of Buckeyes on your helmet - crap, did i just say that? Status baby. There's nothing like the feeling of inviting friends in and having them trip over the mound of Christmas cards piled at the front door, just waiting to be boxed up for next year's Christmas gift tags. They really do make excellent gift tags - and way cheaper than buying them.

One quick question - is that a royal "all of us"? Are you including Sarah in that "all of us"? Or are there actually a group of people AT pomomusings.com? If so, I'm curious to meet "all of us" - the outfit has grown so much since I was at Princeton...

Greeting cards are the analog equivalent to the Facebook poke. You're not really sure why anyone bothered to poke, and you're equally unsure why anyone bothered to send the card. Yet, both of them are strangely satisfying. . .and capable of producing intense guilt until you return the favor.

After 16 years in ministry I've given up on Christmas cards. I want to be fully present with the adults, youth and children I am working with. In Advent the number of church activities triples! The only way I get my gifts 'done' and honor my committment to be 100% for those I serve in ministry with-is to get my gifts wrapped before Thanksgiving! Cards just don't happen. I enjoy receiving them from church members and I cherish them whether they include long letters or a simple signature. Sadly, I don't get them out anymore.

I am working on a "New Year's card". I think I can pull that off!

i know someone who gave this card out last year. it's one of my all-time favorites [i am totally with you on not understanding the card phenomenon]. i've also seen people start to send out cheesy picture cards on purpose [with the ridiculous sweaters, crazy christmas decor and forced toothy grins] those also make for good laughs :)
