While I have been working on a few redesigns with cleave design, other bigger names have been getting their sites redesigned. One which just went live within the past week is the Society of Biblical Literature. This is one I was very interested in seeing because while I worked there last year as a Technology Intern, I got to sit in on the meetings with the design company, Goods For You!, and got to contribute my own thoughts to the design. I’m not entirely sure I like all of the decisions they made (including the huge graphic in the background on the top - I know what that graphic is supposed to signify, but I don’t know if it worked or not), but overall it’s a HUGE improvement over the last design.
Amazon.com put up a new redesign a few weeks ago - and I’m really not sold on it. In some ways, it feels more cluttered than before - but there are some cool new things, and video reviews for books, etc. Maybe it will grow on me.
Compared to Amazon’s redesign, I think Barnes and Noble’s redesign was much more successful. I think they do an excellent job at providing a lot of information for each product, while still providing a clean and simple design. I think it’s a very good redesign. Hopefully, within the next week or so, I’ll be able to show you the two newest sites that I’ve redesigned.
Anyone else seen any well-done recent redesigns?

Well, I’ve redesigned and updated my own website… but, of course, that isn’t big news seeing as it’s only been around for three months and I’m on my third wordpress theme.
I actually just wrote an article comparing two websites, both of which focus on religious tolerance. Although both had issues, the site that was better designed ended up getting my endorsement. This is actually going to end up being a series of articles…
I agree with eh Amazon site. It still sucks. What they need is a better use of focal points. There are none! B&N has a nice center-piece which is exactly where the focal point should be when you look at your own Amazon page. More folks should spend more time fishing around iTunes. The design actually makes me buy stuff there, and I know it, and I don’t care. Why? It’s a pleasurable and sensory experience with a very crisp graphical interface. Amazon not so much. It’s the same thing with new graphics. By the way, it has not change much since 1997. Check it out on the way back machine.
Just wanted to add a couple redesigns to the list

Not on the scale of Amazon.com, but I recently redesigned my own church’s website.

A new complaint for the Amazon site, although only marginally associated with the redesign. If you look at the site today (or have in the past several days), you see a full-page ad on the main page for their new reading device. I understand their desire to push this product, but there is no way to dismiss this message, even after seeing it 15 times. And that sucks. Maybe it’s poor design, maybe it’s just not thinking much about giving visitors more power over their shopping experience…
adam,
i agree that b&n had a great new redesign for their site. also, i purchased the $25 yearly membership and have saved hundreds of dollars compared to amazon. just fyi.
