Ready to start looking for jobs

Date October 22, 2007

Today is a big day for the Walker Cleavelands - we’re both done with the Ordination Exams and Sarah took the GREs today. It feels so good to have the Ordination Exams behind us, and a little bit intimidating as that means that we can begin to start to look for jobs. So - now I can add “Work on my PIF” to my Reading Week to-do list. PIF stands for Personal Information Form, and is what you send out to churches - likewise, they have CIFs (Church Information Forms) that we can look at to get some basic information about the churches.

So, no more hoops. I am very happy about this - but write this post also knowing that some people will get back less favorable news today - and I know that so much of this is based on the readers of the exams - much more so than the actual writers of the exams.

Sarah will be applying to PhD programs and looking for jobs - and I will be looking for a job as well. I’m sure the next few months will be a very interesting time in our lives, as we negotiate this search process as a couple. With all of that said, if you know of any sweet jobs in your area or church, please let us know about them. I really don’t know what I’m looking for, but hopefully something in college/campus ministry or New Church Development.

Good times! Congrats on the ord thing. You are going to be asked ALL THE TIME if you passes them the first go ’round ;-)

As far as jobs, are you all looking at the GTU for PhD work or staying East Coast? If you are thinking CA, let me know, that is my neck of the woods.

    Hey Adam,

I echo jp…There’s still some PCUSA hoops to jump through (sorry). Biggest tip to remember is don’t send out your PIF until you have permission from your committee…big no no, bad seminarian if you do. I’m guessing your Presbytery is a little more chill than some but you don’t want them freaking out if you do something “indecently” and “not in order” lol

I’ll be thinking of/praying for you, Sarah, and the other PTSers who are starting the call search!
