Luthier in Central Jersey Wanted for Guild Guitar

Guild Guitar

Since I’m playing guitar at our neighbor’s church tomorrow, leading the music, I’ve been playing my guitar some this week. My callouses are pretty much non-existent, so I’m hoping that I’m actually able to get through all the songs tomorrow. I started playing guitar in high school and started leading worship in college. I played non-stop for 3 summers at church camps, and built up some great callouses and some much-improved skills. I also led worship in Idaho for a few years, and really enjoyed playing guitar. Since coming to seminary, I’ve lost the discipline of playing daily, but I hope to keep it up a bit more.

The photo above is my guitar - actually, my dad’s guitar. He bought it new in 1969; it’s a Guild D-40, and it has a beautiful sound to it. It’s definitely been through a lot, so it’s not the prettiest guitar around. There have been times that I’ve really wanted to buy a new Taylor and get rid of this Guild - but it has a really great sound and of course, it has history.

I’d love to find a luthier around Central Jersey who could take a look at it and put some work into getting it back into shape. I’d like to find a way to get Guild back on the head stock of the guitar and some other cosmetic fixes to it. Anyway - if anyone knows of a really good guitar shop or luthier around Central Jersey, please let me know.

I’d trust a Guild-certified shop: http://guildguitars.com/support/service_centers/ Maybe even call the company to see if there is an offline favorite/authority.

The sweetest 12 string I ever played was a used Guild, a super jumbo body, if I remember correctly…
