Some of you may have been wondering about the most recent photos. Well, Karen, a good friend of ours from Columbia, has a friend named Fred (for Fred’s bio, click here). Fred has been around for quite awhile, and he likes to take trips like everyone else. Think the Garden Gnome from Amelie, only Fred is way cooler. So, Sarah and I took Fred for a trip around Princeton University and Princeton Theological Seminary. However, Fred’s most exciting adventure was meeting Cornel West. Sarah and I were having lunch at Zorba’s Brother when Dr. West came in for lunch himself. Later, when he got up to pay, I joked with Sarah about asking Cornel to hold Fred for a photo. I got up and said, “Dr. West - hi. I’m a seminarian - I’ve heard some of your lectures.” He replied, “Brother….” So I continued, “Dr. West, I have a very odd request of you - I have this friend who has this stuffed animal who likes to take trips around, and we’ve been taking photos of him with people - could I take your photo with him?” And he had no problem with it.

Exciting! West’s Democracy Matters is next on my reading list, so I’m pretty stoked about it.

I simply love professors who are humble enough to honor odd requests from strangers. Thanks for the post.
