Computer Update
October 18, 2007
So, what is my favorite part about when I have computer problems? The responses I get. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard in the past week, “Ooooh, what? Ooooh, I thought that didn’t happen to Macs….I thought they were p..e..r..f..e..c..t…!”
Yay, thank you. Anyway - FedEx came to deliver it to me yesterday at 10.30am while I was at the CN Center Computer Lab, so I missed it. Luckily, he came back at 4.00pm to try again, and I was home. Thank you FedEx. So, it just had a new hard drive installed and so I began from scratch. By late last night, I had everything back installed and running (including Adobe CS3, which I was concerned about because of licensing issues, but they were very helpful over the phone) except for my iPhoto library, which I’ll do tonight.
I suppose a good thing about this is the chance to start from scratch - spring cleaning. All those old permissions and programs installed and uninstalled…that’s all gone. A fresh start. Still…it’s kind of a pain. But nevertheless, I will always still stick with Macs in the future. For some of these issues I’ve had, I’d still rather live with the steadiness of an Apple product anytime.

As someone who made one of those comments to you, I should point out that the *reason* people say those things is in itself a testament to the fact that Macs *do* have a reputation for stability and something akin to perfection.
While I’m just as devoted to my Linux as you are to your Mac, I do have a great respect for Apple’s products and the level of consistent quality that goes along with them. This is (of course) contrasted with my total lack of any kind of respect for any piece of @#$@# that runs Micro$oft…

here’s the thing. in the end, software is software, hardware is hardware. i have been a mac user for almost 15 years. i have had ONE crash in 15 years. some of my windoze friends have had more than they would like to count. the operating system isn’t perfect, the hardware can become damaged, but the percentage of reports of fatal damage/crashes from mac users is incredibly smaller than their windoze counterparts.
by the way, the newest operating system (Leopard OS 10.5) comes out next week. I am sure it will have some bugs that need to be worked out. so i will wait with anticipation before getting it, to see how it is received.
