Damn.

Damn. These are just hot. The Nano, the Classic and a wifi iPod - iPod Touch. So now the question is - spend the $399 for the 8GB iPhone (price was dropped $200!) or spend $399 for a 16GB iPod Touch. Damn.

I went into today knowing I’d come out of it with a new iPod. I steped on my iPod video about a year and a half ago, breaking the screen, and have yet to repair or replace it — so today was a big day knowing I’d finally have an iPod again. What I didn’t anticipate was the iPhone droping down to the same price as the iPod Touch. I also had hoped for slightly more memory from the touch, something more in the 20-30 gig range.
Anyway… I’ll be getting the 16GB touch for $399. To me, my phone does what I need it to do — I’m not with AT&T so changing providers would be a pain, and I want more memory. I can also justify the expense of a new iPod by canceling the $25/mo. internet plan on my phone. With wi-fi on the iPod, what’s the point of browsing on my phone now?

Wait till January. . . a new gen iPhone should be out, and then buy it and unlock it. . . thats the best way to go.

or … eschew technology and spend $399 on your wife :) Hey, that’d be fun

Funny, my girlfriend said the same thing about spending money on her instead. ;-)

I have an iPod from a few years back that I barely use, but the touch one is so pretty I want one anyway. :-D

I hope they come out with a version of the iPod touch with more memory as 16G isn’t much.

I hope they come out with an iPod that will has enough GB’s to save my soul…oh, and maybe WiFi. Get over it.

Do you already have an Ipod? If so, is it really necessary to get another? And in the phone vein, I’d ask the same question…

Nate - it’s not a matter of whether or not I have another iPod. Sure - but I’d sell it for a newer released product. I think I may be leaning more towards the iPod Touch for a PDA/iPod, rather than going with the iPhone - but we’ll see.

Here is an interesting article on Apple’s focus on the iPod and lack of focus on their computers…in particular their disappointing lineup of desktops.

No matter how you try to justify this purchase, isn’t there something else that $399 can go towards, other than trendy “stuff” used for status as much if not more than any practical or neccessary need for the ipod? I’ll love you no matter what, but what are you trying to prove? Where does a $399 ipod or phone fit into your theology or view of the world.
Keep it real son!
Tell princess I love her too!

The new nano is too small and made for a child’s hand. It SUCKS! i liked the last generation of the nano. Why does Apple have to keep changing every f*$#@*% thing?

I ordered a 16GB Touch yesterday. I’m thinking about going in your direction, Adam, with trying to use it like a PDA/iPod. Hopefully, Apple will let us get some kind of mail and notes apps (new section in the iTunes Store perhaps?), otherwise I’ll just hope some 3rd party devs will make something that I can hack onto it.
