Atlanta Pollen Count

I have allergies. Now, granted, they used to be worse when I was younger (many, many years of getting allergy shots 1x/month), but they still kick into high-gear in the spring. And Atlanta’s pollen is not helping the situation. Today’s pollen count was 5,449. I don’t follow pollen counts religiously, so I didn’t know how horrific that was until I did a little research. It goes like this:

  • 0-30: Low
  • 31-60: Moderate
  • 61-120: High
  • Over 120: Extremely High

So, with today’s pollen count of 5,499…well, you get the picture. Some of the kids in our apartment complex were washing cars yesterday because they were so gross. 20 min and $1 later, our car was clean and pollen free. 10 minutes after that – covered in pollen. It comes in the windows, through the screens, all over our desks, tables…it covers the ground, the cars, anything outside. It’s bad. Go away pollen.

I look at those pictures and all I can say is “Wow!” Yesterday I was complaining that my allergies are kickin’ in. I will NEVER complain about the pollen count in Utah again.

It’s even more fun when you consider that pollen is basically a plant’s way of trying to have sex with anything that it can.

Yeah, there are a few things i miss about the south. Pollen is not one of them. The pollen is so bad there that i actually developed allergies that i had not previously had when living in other parts of the states.

Good insight Eric.

Is that a normal count for the season, or is Atlanta having a particularly freak spring?

It’s raining in eastern Washington. The trees are just starting to bud and just a few bulbs are blossoming. I don’t like pollen, but the pics do make me look forward to spring.

Tell me about it. They call East Texas the “lost pines”. I am right smack-dab in the middle of 100ft tall pine trees. The stuff is everywhere…including my lungs!

$1/20 min = $3/hr.

Adam, oh man. Those pictures make me feel like sneezing! I have super bad allergies myself, so I totally feel for you!

P.S. I loved your LOST recap. We are big fans as well.

P.P.S. I will get to emailing you one of these days…sorry. Things have been kind of busy around here! But I would love to catch up and chat about Italy!

Jenny, my experience with Atlanta is that 5,000 is a relatively low count for this time of year. I’ve seen it as high as 12,000.

today (Thursday March 29) the count is up to 5937.

And i’ve been told that in the last 12 years since they really started counting, the record high is 6013. maybe 2007 will break that record.

peace,
Tully

5000 is the typical spring pollen count for a few weeks of spring here in Atlanta, for those wondering.

The scale you’re using (120) is different from the 5,449 count. Those are two different scales. Go to pollen.com for an actual observation/forecast of the pollen count.
