24: Jack is Back

Date January 14, 2007

Jack BauerWe’re having some fellow 24-addicts over tonight and tomorrow for the 24 Season 6 Two-Night Premiere! Sarah and I started watching Season 1 of 24 on July 18, 2006. That didn’t take us long and we quickly went through Seasons 2-4 as well. We watched Season 5 over Christmas break in 2 days and now, for the first time, we’ll have to be like everyone else and actually WAIT a week between each episode. That’s going to drive me crazy (especially when LOST starts up in February). But…I’m excited. For someone with an Anabaptist background, I still cannot get enough of Jack Bauer.Just in case anyone else is having a 24 “party” tonight - you might want to check out the 24 Drinking Game. It’s hilarious - below is just a sample of what you have to do:

One Drink

  • Jack kills somebody.
  • Something bad happens to Kim.
  • There’s a split screen (!!!!)
  • Jack defies orders.
  • A CTU employee looks at another CTU employee suspiciously.

Drink twice whenever

  • Some annoying authority figure shows up (Chappelle, Alberta Green, etc.).
  • Somebody mentions Terri (Season One doesn’t count).
  • Somebody is revealed to be a mole/traitor, or an important object turns out to be a decoy/red herring.

Drink three times whenever

  • A supporting character from a previous season shows up (Nina, Mandy, Sherry, Kate, etc.)
  • CTU goes into lockdown.

Update: So 24 was amazing. I can’t wait until tomorrow. Jack is back and the country’s under attack. Can it get any better than that? But…I tell you. That drinking game. It’s really the “split screen” rule that kills you. There is split screen after split screen and…yah - well…2 hours of split screens and we were having some fun over at the Walker Cleaveland household. Can’t wait for tomorrow night…

    That drinking game is funny.
I made it through the first 2 seasons of 24 and half of the third and then lost track. Crazy, I know but it kind of got a bit cheesy there with Kim and Chase; I can see how it would be better if you could fast forward to the good stuff by having it on DVD though.
I still remember the 1st Season and newness of it all and how you had to wait from week to week, drove me nuts. The best part was when the villain was revealed to be Dennis Hopper (who is an old friend of Keifer Sutherland’s and has starred in some movies with him) and the killing of Jack’s wife.
Of course, Palmer’s attempted assasination at the end of Season 2 when the woman shakes his hand and poisons him was pretty edge of your seat, good cliff hanger for the summer.
I saw bits and pieces of last year’s episodes where Palmer and other characters were killed off but didn’t manage to stay with it.
But the previews for this season are intriguing, I might have to start watching again and catch up by watching Season 6 re-broadcast on FX.
Have fun with the 24 party!
    :-)

I was hoping not to get sucked into this madness for s sixth season since I’ve only half watched the other seasons while my roommate obsessed over them, but we had a dinner party tonight and one of my pals had to watch the show…so now we’re hooked. Eesh!

Seriously, I hope Jack gets back to shooting and stabbing because the vampire thing is just too gross.

24 is awesome. This was my first live tv viewing of 24. I also rented/downloaded the previous seasons of 24 starting in March 2006. I got hooked immediately and am psyched about Jack Baur coming back! Can’t wait for tonight

Okay so I watched my first ever episode of 24 last night. I was fully prepared to be “proven wrong” for all my nay-saying as I had been for LOST (of which I am now a helpless addict).

Wow… not so. Maybe it was just a less than stellar episode or maybe I read too much William T. Cavanaugh but either way I thought it was CHEESY NASCAR Dad entertainment to the max. Not impressed at all. Give me LOST anyday, but I was right about 24, I’m not a fan.

No one can tell me that Monday’s two episodes of 24 weren’t amazing…Jack and Curtis!! Are you kidding me?! Damn!

Wow, i just started watching 24 this week. I have not seen a single episode from any of the other seasons, but a co-worker convinced me to give it a try. The first two episodes sucked me in very quickly, but i have to say that hour 3 and 4 were amazing. the last three minutes of hour 4 left my jaw hanging wide open. i can’t believe i held out this long.

Dude, I’m telling you “they weren’t amazing.” I just don’t get what the appeal is for this show. Was it tense and action-packed? Yes. Was it well acted and unique? No. Does it reinforce ideas like “we’re constantly under attack” and we owe our lives and well being to counter-terrorist forces? Yes.

24 is lame. The entire acting philosophy of the whole series is “yell louder”.
