WordPress 2.1 Release Coming Soon: Photos Anyone?

Date January 12, 2007

WordPress 2.1 may be released as soon as January 22nd, according to the WordPress Development Blog here. As with all new releases or upgrades in software, everyone has their own hopes and dreams for what will be included. Ryan Boren, developer for WordPress, gave a list, back in August of ‘06, of new things to look for in WordPress 2.1. Some of that stuff does sound great, but…

I want better photo functionality. I want to be able to easily make a photo album with WordPress. I love the open-source-ness of WordPress, the UI (User Interface), the online forum community and their willingness to help and tutor…but I want to be able to create a photo album as easily as I can write a post, like I could with Typepad (not that I am trying to compare here, but…).

I tried, unsuccessfully, to create a photo album for someone using WordPress a few months ago. Granted, the person wanted password-protection on certain galleries, blah blah blah. But I shouldn’t have to try and figure out Gallery 2 or Photostack or Coppermine, or…I just want to be able to make a photo album with WordPress. And yes, I know there are plenty of Flickr Album plugins available, but I would still like something that WordPress gives us without having to even install a plugin.

Is this just me, or does anyone else want this too?

I would love if they had something like that. It is always such a pain in the ass to try and get photos to work well (especially in K2). I also hear that they are going to have a static front page option.

I know you don’t want a plugin, but I’ve been using http://animalbeach.net/aniga/ on a few of my sites.

    Peace
