Things are going well with our vacation. We had a pretty good flight to Boise, but Sarah’s head-cold kept getting worse. A few good nights of sleep helped Sarah kick the worst of it, but neither of us are 100%. We had a nice drive from Boise to Spokane, and a good two nights in Spokane. My sister cooked us a great Thai Chicken dish and Sarah and I stayed with a professor of mine from Whitworth (for any who might know, we stayed at Linda & Jim Hunt’s "The Hearth"). We got to have coffee with one of my favorite profs at Whitworth, Jerry Sittser, and Sarah got to see Whitworth’s campus when it is prettiest.

We drove to Glacier National Park and camped for two nights - it was cold but a lot of fun as well. We saw beautiful views (I’m sure Sarah will elaborate about one day in particular) and some animals. Today we drove around the park and ended up in Missoula. We both like Montana a lot (future stomping grounds?? who knows) and we’re going to spend the day in Missoula tomorrow and check out the town. And then it’s off to Idaho, in preparation for my going before Presbytery. YES! More later…

PS: You can see we’re driving the sporty PT Cruiser. Not the car I would ever buy, but let me say that it’s a GREAT rental car. We’ve been having a lot of fun driving it - and it’s kind of funny, with such an "odd" car like that, you sort of feel a real sense of ‘community’ with other PT Cruisers on the road. Odd.

Photos of trip so far…

My first car was a 1984 Cadillac Coupe Deville. You definitely start noticing other similar cars. One time a guy in a 1978 Cadillac honked at me on the highway…just to smile and wave. :)

I rented a PT Cruiser while I was in Seattle and hated it. Horrible turning radius and if you’re tall it’s hard to see the stop lights when stopped. Mine was a 4 cylinder so it was just had not guts at all. But hey if you liked it….

I was looking at Flickr and curious, what’s a maple bar? Is it like maple fudge? Up here in the snowy north we don’t have them even though we produce maple syrup.

A maple bar is basically a rectangular confection made of donut dough with a gooey maple-flavored glaze on it.

Actual maple syrup content = 0.00001%

I guess it would be something like a Beavertail that we have up here.
