dude that looks like the ebay site circa 1995. I don’t think i’ve seen a web site that bad since that website would have been normal… i.e. 1995.
For pity’s sake adam, help them out.

Obviously, First Methodist of Cumming Ga., your neck of the woods, could use an update. http://www.cummingfirst.com

I figured my home church would have a pretty bad site but as it turns out its not half bad. I’m actually really glad you posted this because I found some stuff out about it that makes me want to go back.

Notice that I come from a church that has .com in its url but my vote goes to our cousin (by domain name only) http://www.bigcreekchurch.org as my vote for the worst church website.

I think what I like best about this site is the quote that scrolls by telling people to stop griping about their church. Hey, no use glossing over stuff, right? :)

Sounds like the pastor (or webmaster) might be getting a little fed up… :)

I’ve got nothing to contribute to this coversation- only my thanks for the amusing study break as I too take WAY too long to finish my exegesis test. Seriously, it’s not that hard- I just DON’T want to do this anymore! Down with the ords!
    Sigh. Back to work.

So the 6 runner ups are evenly divided between Louisiana and Nevada… and I am proud to say my hometown of Covington made the list! (even though I don’t go to that church)
I also was excited to learn that FPC of Las Vegas has a Swing Dance Ministry!

    ??????

Sorry if I wasn’t clear, KP. What I meant is that the sentence should read: “Quit griping about your church. If it was perfect, you couldn’t belong.” And I’d like to see them stay away from telling people not to “gripe.”

so i heard you do web design, so i gave your name to my new church - our website has been “under construction” for about a year now, and the last guy to send us a plan was RIDICULOUS. i don’t know if you’ve heard from them yet, but if you do, i hope you’ll consider it! http://www.palmschurch.org

I love that this sentence is floating across the website: “quit griping about your church if it was perfect, you couldn’t belong.”

    Really??? Sooo bad.

I’ve got to say I’m also impressed by the http://www.communitypres.org/ site. Forget about Christ cleansing the church from sin; here he irradiates it!

Also gotta love the split link on the Sand Hills Preschool button. Hover over it and you’ll see what I mean.

I don’t get it. I guess I’m hoplessly unhip. While none of these sites are exactly swanky, and many contain cheesy graphics, none of them (except the one that gripes about griping) would keep me from visiting a congregation. Many of you who nominated your own church websites –what’s wrong with them?
Aren’t most of these websites designed and kept current by church volunteers? Cheez, ya ingrates.

When you all decide to snark on funeral parlors, I’ll be right there with you. A friend and I noticed that all funeral parlors are ridiculously cheesy in decor and music, and we hate them. But most of these web sites seem fine to me.

I hope all of you who are scoffing these web sites and have the skills to improve them will vow to volunteer your time and talent (and taste) to a church near you, desperately in need of Gen X and Y-ers know-how to get themselves represented well on the internet. Lord knows we need you.

I agree with the previous couple of comments. I am afraid I can’t join in on this idea of having a laugh at other people’s expense, especially when a lot of church web sites may be volunteer efforts or put out by small churches with few resources. Instead of making fun of others in a public forum, how about offering polite suggestions in private to the churches in question? And if they don’t take your suggestions, so be it. At least you would be doing something constructive instead of simply mocking the sincere efforts of others.

I guite enjoy, from the site just above my post, this quote:

“How do I become a Christian Click Bible?”

  28. Ben Gray said:

I think it’s perfectly fine to make fun of church’s websites. This is what these churches have decided is the best was to represent themselves online. In these cases where there are cheesy graphics and horrible layouts I submit that it would be better to have no web presence at all than to have this kind of presence. Your media has to match your message. If your message is “Hey, we are just as backwards as our website suggests” then those horrible sites accomplish their purpose.

  29. Mystical Seeker said:

In response to the above comment, I can only reiterate that it isn’t “perfectly fine to make fun of church’s websites.” Sure, there is no doubt that bad web sites do not serve their churches well. So then offer constructive criticisms–but don’t make fun of them. If a church web site is flawed, make some polite suggestions for improvement. My complaint is not with the idea that church web sites often need improvement, it is with this notion that it is okay to ridicule people who are only trying to do the best they can.

The best thing about the “visitor counters” is when you get to be first (any maybe only) visitor of the site.
At least no one is harmed if they don’t go to the site.
