The Weepies at World Cafe Live
April 21, 2006
Tonight I was at the World Cafe Live in Philly listening to The Weepies play a show. Classes were done for me today, 1 final paper is already written, and it was a great way to end the week and semester. After a great dinner and 2 Yuenglings, I made my way up to an open table on the left of the stage and enjoyed some great music. I got a chance to chat with Deb Talan a bit before the show, and then with Steve Tannen a little after the show. They’re both very cool and friendly. Of course, with the free WiFi at the venue, I had to pull out my laptop, besides the fact that I wanted to grab some audio from the show. If you listen to Vegas Baby, around the 41sec marker, Steve looked over and asked, "What’s on myspace man?" And I had a very funny response…"Nuthin’." That’s all I could think of on the fly. Huh.
Anyway, they are definitely worth checking out if you can see them. If you do check out their myspace page, you can find the list of shows still to come. Here are a few "bootleg" songs from the show for you to enjoy if you’d like (sorry the quality isn’t better): Citywide Rodeo, Jolene, Say I Am You, Suicide Blonde, Unraveling and Vegas Baby.

So maybe I do hate you a little. Ironically, I’m listening to The Weepies right now. And you do have to admit that I’m the one who introduced you to Deb Talan…. So there.

I was listening to The Weepies the other day… and someone said my music is weird.
How unkind.

If you can’t say anything nice don’t say anything….well, sorry, but the WEEPIES suck so bad I can’t help it. Every time that damn Old Navy commercial comes on I get nauseous and have to turn it off. What’s wrong with miss weepies voice? She sounds like a uptight cracked-out deaf retard! Where did they get such a pansy name in the first place? Don’t get mad and defensive, little weepyites, for all of you who like this band should merely consider what’s wrong with your ears and why you like something that is so stupid, and just do the world a favor by not supporting such annoying crap! I’d rather listen to a roomful of wailing babies than the Weepies!

That’s a big ten-four. My girlfriend loves The Weepies, I cannot stand them. It’s not like I haven’t given them a chance, but I just have a really high standard for music; that’s why I prefer Yngweir Malmasteem (probably misspelled), Trivium, Black Label, etc.
It’s just such a pitiful waste of airwaves. If you’re going to produce mediocre crap, why produce at all? The purpose of art is to produce something with meaning, value, reinforced with an unquenchable passion. I don’t find that in this indie-rock BS. The same can be said of The Postal Service, The Spill Canvas, every stupid “The” band, and Of Montreal. I HATE Of Montral, oh and not to mention Georgia. They absolutely suck.
