If we’re going to talk about torture….
November 17, 2005

A recent post on another blog accurately called for an end to torture.
I wholeheartedly agree. Torture is wrong and should never be used.
But if we are going to talk about torture, and if we are going to call for an end to torture based on human rights, we must call for an end to torture EVERYWHERE. And that means, whether some people would like to admit it or not, it means we call for an end to torture and unjust detainments of Palestinians by the Israeli Defense Forces. Torture happens (go here to read about torture in Israeli prisons). Torture happens to children.
One only has to go to the Amnesty International page for Israel & the Occupied Territories to see that the presence of torture exists in Israel & Palestine - torture committed by Israeli troops and police, against Palestinians.
I am against torture, and in agreement with this blog that it must end. But, I wonder if they will be willing to admit that torture EVERYWHERE must end - particularly when the guilty party is Israel and the victims are Palestinians.

What is torture?

Not a bad idea. But how do you suppose to get the people who enjoy giving torture to stop? The cats who cut off Berg’s head seemed to have no problem with doing so.

Here is a question. I too am opposed to torture. Yet, (I can’t believe I am saying this) I recently have been watching the show “24″ on t.v. The show presents several situations in which torture is used to extract information from suspects about to imminently detonate a nuclear weapon in Los Angeles. I suppose it is far fetched, but I have to admit I was troubled by the scenario. Would torture in such a situation be wrong? I still think so, but I am not sure that I wouldn’t condone it. I recognize the dehumanizing nature of torture and the fact that it will beget further subjugations, but what if there was a legitimate scenario in which it could save thousands if not millions of lives. Would some form of torture be warranted in such a case? What form? Again, I ask, what is torture? What constitutes torture?

You quote only Palestinian sources and they are very unreliable at best.
Why not just link up to Hamas and ask them?
Does it bother you that Palestinians blow up innocent Israeli’s?
No you understand that. You say so yourself.
Why not just admit you hate jews and be honest?
Do you care about the harm being done to them? no. be real.
