Let the adventure begin…
March 3, 2005

Spring Break ‘05 (well, it’s actually our reading week, and we all have to write papers, and read books, etc but we’re going to go ahead and call it Spring Break).
We’re off and we’ll be heading down to Atlanta for a few days. I’ll be hanging with some of the coolest people at CTS, so that is fun (go here and check out the #1 reason. Yah).
So we’re driving to Atlanta, and we left around 3.30pm today. If you’re bored and want to help keep Amy and I awake as we drive down there, call my cell phone (609.933.4000) and we can chat. That will help keep us awake, as we’ll be driving through part of the night - so if you’re on the West coast…CALL, okay? Thanks. Chris P. Call. Now THAT would be amazing — if Chris P. and Adam had a nice little chat on the phone…
Anyway, hope to hear from you - wish us safe travels - pray if you want - thanks!

WARNING: DON’T TRY THIS ON YOUR ROADTRIP
If one is driving along and the battery light and brakelight spontaneously come on, consider stopping somewhere. If then the CD player starts freaking out, serioulsy consider stopping somewhere. Because next thing you know, if you don’t stop and get it checked out, you could find your car stopping, absolutely dead, in the middle of driving along the Pennsylvania Turnpike near Harrisburg. Which is not at all what just happened to Adam and Amy.
Also, if said thing happens, don’t call your friends who are near computers and ask them to post comments about said events because it will only reveal the true depths of your blog-obsession. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. But then you’ll find yourself on the side of the road near Harrisburg (Harrisburg? What’s in Harrisburg?), waiting for AAA and being quietly mocked behind your back on your own blog.
Just some advice off the top of my head.
Have a good trip and all that.

one thing i learned while driving back and forth between colorado and north carolina in college: dont drive with binoculars. it messes up your perception.
just a thought off the top of my head.

Ouch. I called Adam from my commute home, stuck in traffic in Bellevue, at about 4 pm Pacific time (7 pm Eastern) and was apparently the first blog caller (woohoo).
They’d just had, oops, had not had at all an incident with the electrical system freaking out. Right next to Harrisburg. Remember, the only thing Harrisburg is famous for is the Three Mile Island meltdown. Not that I’d compare Adam’s non-incident to that…
Oh no, not me.

UP
Just talked with Adam and Amy. They are at Pep Boys in Mechanicsville. The shop was supposed to close at 9, but Adam slipped them an extra $100 to stay open and fix the Subaru, instead of dropping money on a hotel.
They should be on the road any minute.
Excited to hear their account of the dra-ma.

update:
just talked to adam. after the very speedy alternator/battery replacement (all of ten minutes) they are back on the road, hoping to drive even faster straight through the night. it’s up to you west coasters to keep them awake now. i’ll pick up the slack in the morning. (adam’s mom, i hope you aren’t reading because this is the kind of stuff that keeps mothers awake at night! don’t worry! :)

OK, we’re on it. I’ll call, ooh, maybe 11 pm here, i.e. 2 am out there. God knows where they’ll be (oh yes she will…) Cruising through Virginia? Maybe in North Carolina? Who knows?

hey, all,
just talked to Adam; they’re making good progress and are in good spirits. they just ate at wendy’s. BUT: adam reiterated his desire to have west coasters call them!…they need your support to get them through this all-night drive! keep the cards and letters coming!

I just talked to Adam a couple of minutes ago. As of 1:20 they are in Harrisonburg, VA, which is right in the middle of route 81 in the state. They sound pretty good, although I know that they would appreicate some more phone calls later tonight.
March 4th, 2005 at 2:42 am
As of 2:40 am Eastern time they were just getting gas somewhere indeterminate in Virgina on Hwy 81.
Probably pretty close to the VA/NC border, but they weren’t really sure. Maybe somewhere near Blacksburg, which is a fun place. Virginia Tech right there, and it’s close to where Dirty Dancing was filmed way back when.

At 1:07 AM in Washington (4:07 AM for them), they were still in VA somewhere, still truckin’ along and trying really hard to stay awake. Adam and I talked for about 20 minutes…and I rubbed it in that I was going to my warm bed.
March 4th, 2005 at 4:13 am
Now 1:10 (PST) and this is the best I can do….Just had a word with my son, who sounds VERY AWAKE! I’m also headed to my warm bed. Strange as it may seem, I’m not really worrying……so I guess that’s a good thing!
nite nite everyone…except Adam and Amy!

Friends….Amy and I have arrived in Atlanta, and I’m about ready to lay down for a short nap…we drove till around 5am, then stopped at a gas station for 2 hrs sleep…Adam then relinquished control of the vehicle to Amy, and she drove us into Cleveland, GA and through Lee University, and then we got on our way to Marietta, GA. I’m gonna nap for a bit, shower and then head over to Columbia Seminary to see friends. So, we’ve made it - thanks for all your phone calls friends!

March 4th, 2005 at 7:24 pm
hey…just took adam up on the invite to call. they’re driving around atlanta headed for Chick -fil-A. A first time for them…well at least for Adam. bon apetite! If Adam decides the books are too much he could think about a new business opporunity and get sundays off! http://www.chick-fil-a.com/Operator.asp
blessings on the journey.

Good News: So we made it, Adam didn’t fall completely asleep while driving (I may have dosed a bit in the passenger seat), we’re alive, Adam did let me drive and we don’t hate eachother.
