Some fun in NYC

Date January 18, 2005

Welcome to the photo gallery of a couple days in New York City…absolutely freezing, but lots of fun. I met up with Jean, who became a great friend while I was living in Idaho doing ministry. Got to stay at her sister’s place in Yorktown, so it was fun to get to see some of NYC as well as some other places in NY. So, here are a few of the shots I took while on this little adventure…

All Angels church was absolutely amazing. Caught the 11am service, met some really great people, experienced a beautifully-alive service with amazing music, inspiring sermon…it was great. I’ll definitely be heading up there again sometime soon.

Here it is. Seinfeld. Fun. You can see St. John the Divine Cathedral in the background.

Olie’s. This was a really great noodle shop for lunch. Good good.

St. John the Divine Cathedral. Absolutely amazing on the outside. It felt pretty damn empty inside, but still pretty awe-inspiring.

Jean and I went to Riverside Church for their Martin Luther King, Jr. service. Dr. Forbes did some readings from King’s “Letters from Birmingham Jail,” and there was a ton of music, including pieces from the Ebony Ecumenical Ensemble, The Elijah Men’s Choir of the Central Presbyterian Church of New York and The Riverside Choir.

Max’s Italian food. You’d never guess this was an absolutely amazing restaurant…but it is. A little hole-in-the-wall place at 51 Avenue B in the East Village, it’s amazing. Special thanks to Bruner for the recommendation. I had the first and best gnocchi I’ve ever had. It was a 30min wait for a tiny tiny table in the crowded restaurant, but it was amazing…

Grand Central Station…yes, Dooced (I couldn’t help myself). Beautiful architecture in this building.

What’s a trip to NYC without running into H&M?? I got a shirt that, when I showed it to a friend back here at PTS, she said, “Whoa — is Adam turning metrosexual??? Oh wait…he already is…” Anyway, it’s black. With little pink dots on it. It’s hot. Yup.

Times Square.

Jean and Adam. Absolutely frickin’ cold. But fun…

Zach, it’s a cheap-o. I have a lot of fun with Adobe Photoshop though. The camera I use is a Fujifilm Finepix A303. You can currently get one on eBay for about $100. It’s a fun, durable little camera that I have enjoyed. I’d love a bigger better camera, but this one works…

You know - we lived there .. on 113th and Broadway - right across from the diner for three years while Eric was in Columbia …and Ollies has the best lo-mein and hot and sour soup in NYC …all we could afford then, but extremely worth it …It was your pic of All Angels that got me scrolling - as I am in a rush, just now…
Seeing these pics made me indescribably homesick …
    Thank you for that …
