More perspective…
December 26, 2004

I’m sitting here at 2am, after spending the night watching TV on our 27″ inch TV, flipping through old family Christmas movies, after having eaten a huge Christmas dinner and just walked up and used my bathroom with plumbing and running water…and I feel like shit.
Why? Because more than 23,000+ people are feared to be dead in Asia (Sri Lanka, India, Thailand and Indonesia) because of one of the biggest quakes to hit the world in over 40 years. This is the 5th largest quake recorded in history 100 miles off the coast of Sumatra, and massive tsunamis are slamming the coast of southeast Asia And then I wonder about the presents I got for Christmas…damn that money could have gone to the people in Asia who will be starting their lives over again….Peace Lord Jesus…I do NOT know what to pray…Holy Spirit, pray for us……

Adam, maybe you’ll find encouragement in this:
The Incarnation:
I stumble at the thought of God sleeping on hay,
With scent of cow manure and cud-chewing blank stares;
Or of God twisting a tiny finger around the young mother’s hand,
As he nurses and drifts to sleep to her weary psalm.
I stumble to see the slow afternoon, the rhythm of planing wood,
Halting to fetch Joseph a saw.
Or figuring accounts of his father’s business
As God plans to change his career.
I stumble to believe that he fluffed and propped a pillow,
Then fell into sleep too deep for storm to waken;
Or to see God, dust covered, with tired feet resting;
Longing for a drink and talking to a cheap woman.
To be found wandering Roman territory without papers—
No letter from Heaven certifying his claim.
To be lumped with every radical with blazing eyes
And visions who portrayed the certainty of society’s fall.
A wine making, mud dabbing, temple brawler God,
Broke, homeless, surrounded by weak and foolish men.
God can be myth and metaphor and image;
A rock, a mountain, sun, light, or sea;
But the sweating flesh of a middle age man—
A descent that would often be heresied away.
I stumble at the thought of God incarnated—
But not drunken night stumbling down an empty road;
I stumble at the thought of God incarnated—
Intensely light blinded, fearfully secured, irresistibly drawn.

Pretty amazing. This morning, the news reported 5,000 - 8,000 dead. Hard to wrap one’s mind around.
Indeed, Come Lord Jesus.

For anyone wishing to help out in some tangible way, World Vision is actively involved and rasing money for “Family Survival Kits” for devastated families…

I find it amazing…The U.S. is only providing $15 Million for disaster relief!!! We spend that amount in less than a day in Iraq….
