PCUSA Moderator, Ufford-Chase, at Princeton

Date December 9, 2004

Rick Ufford-Chase is the 216th Moderator for the General Assembly of the PCUSA, and he came and spoke at Chapel today at PTS. What a wonderful, dynamic speaker. It’s encouraging, as Andrew said, “to have someone young and hip as the Moderator for the PCUSA.” I would also say that it’s encouraging to have our Moderator spend his “meditation” talking about the benefits of intentional communities, seeing the “sermon” as a conversation, that (when it comes down to compensation, pay-scale, and difficulty of life) being a pastor isn’t/shouldn’t be viewed as a special case, concern for the poor, the marginalized. I was very encouraged to hear him speak today (you can check out his website here, and he also has his own blog: U-C: What I see). It’s also extremely encouraging to know that he is a reservist, as a nonviolent
peacemaker in situations of conflict, with on the Christian Peacemaker Teams, and that he is leaving Princeton and heading to New York to go to the Presbyterian United Nations Office, part of the Presbyterian Peacemaking Program. Thanks for giving me some hope today Rick!

    Bro,

It was GOOD to get some West Coast Presbyterianism today. In fact, it was good to get into some of the issues the denomination is dealing with and the call that one faces when searching a call. Exciting stuff bro. It’s madness….

    Cleave,

I’m sure you already know this…but did you see that our moderator has his own blog?

Bro, I think I knew he had a blog but I couldn’t find it when I posted real quick. Thanks for the link.

Hey Adam, Rick has the same “Pro-Life” view I do. (I checked out his blog, aren’t you proud of me?) No death penalty, no abortions. God is about life. I like this guy (Rick, not God…I mean I like God…I love God…but by “guy” I meant Rick…not God.)!
