Alex 110

Welcome to Alexander Hall, room 110. Really, it’s the biggest room on the hall, so I’m eternally grateful to whoever made that possible. Although, it is right across from the bathroom, elevator and snack/pop machines, I’m willing to deal with that, since it means I get a ‘posh’ room. So, let me give you a little tour. Starting from the left, we have my desk, which I have yet to get organized, but I will become smart there. Someone asked me if I was Orthodox after seeing the icon, orthodox calendar, rosary (and chant music in the background). Door with the cross from Christ in the Desert Monastery above it. Then comes my beautifully comfortable bed (here is a close-up, it’s so wonderful!), with my dresser underneath, as well as some storage space. Then we have my bookshelf, African mask from Andrew, and my “Beer” poster. You probably can’t tell, but on the top of the bookshelf, we have a nice little collection of shot-glasses (including a Whitworth one, thanks Jen!) as well as The Prayer of Jabez on a little display, just to see if anyone will say anything. In the bay window, you’ll see my new plant, which is actually named Jabez, just for the hell of it. Then there is a very nice sitting area with a coffee table, and four nice chairs. It was fun, we had about 4-6 people hanging out here last night before heading off to the D-Bar; it’s nice to have “the room” where people can be comfortable to hang out. Then we have the “bar” with the TV on top, and the refrigerator down below, covered by a drapery that I made myself with some iron-on-hemming and a small tension rod. I felt pretty “domestic”…then there is my closet, and we’re done. That’s Alex 110, my room.

Last night, we had a “formal” dinner…lots of schmoozing. It was pretty humorous, everyone trying to put on their best face. After the dinner, a big group from the seminary took over the D-Bar and we had a lot of fun for a couple hours. Today they just gave us all these papers and we had to listen to all sorts of people speak to us about curriculum, the ancient-paper registration process, and much more. The “word” is that tonight behind Hodge, there is going to be a slip-n-slide. A little odd…? Hey, why not? Well, I’m off to a picnic right now. Looks like I’ll be taking some sweet classes…I’ll let you know when I get my schedule finalized…

Wow - your room looks huge! How many square feet is it? Glad you’re getting settled in.

Hey, I want a close-up of the bookshelves! (It’s always the first place I look when I enter someone else’s house.)

Adam

Just wondering, are you a freshman at Princeton??
What other seminaries did you look at going to and why did you choose Princeton?
Hope you get the classes that you want.

Adam–I heard about your site through Josh or maybe David. I also am starting out at PTSEM (as a Junior–how can you start out as a Junior?!). I didn’t know who you were until I saw your picture on your site–I’ve seen you around but I don’t think I’ve actually talked to you yet. I am in Alex 317 (I think I’m going to shorten it further to A-317 and hope it catches on) and I think that when I turned on my iTunes the other day that I saw your name on shared music, but I couldn’t access your stuff because it was password protected. Which is cool…I guess.

Anyway, I am a blogger as well (sadly, it’s the only thing that I qualified for in that guy’s opening speech), so feel free to check out my blog if you are so inclined.

yo, Adam,

Beautiful site. And interesting thoughts all around. It’ll definitely be a temptation to spend time reading here when I should be reading for OT101, CH101, et al.

Also: big ups to Blankets, by Craig Thompson! I read it this past year and loved it. Let me know what you thought of it.

anon,
Dave

Every place I move into, I try to take a few panoramic pictures. Someday, I might even buy a copy of RealViz Sticher and make Quicktime VRs out of them.
