Emergent Convention Reflections: The Blog

Date May 23, 2004

The blog. People often make fun of my blog, how much I get into it, etc. Which is fine – it is quite humorous when you begin to live life through the lens of the blog. But this week has shown me just how important the blog (and things like it) are to our times, this discussion, etc. The dinner we had with the bloggers was an amazing time of fellowship. I loved meeting people with whom I have been dialoguing over the past 9 months. I met a great guy, Josh Blanco, from Florida, we had a great conversation - he is in a bit of a rough place because there really aren’t many (if any…?) people who he can talk about these issue with back where he is from. That is why the blogs he reads are a huge asset/comfort to him.

I am more convinced than ever that the blog is a powerful tool of community (albeit, a different “form” of community than many are used to) - and it can be a strong community. I felt a certain bond with the others who had blogged, and it was really a wonderful gift to be able to spend some time with this past week. Thank you God!

Yeah, I totally feel you on this and know what you mean. Desert Pastor and I got to meet (again) and hang out with Anna Aven last night. We were talking about trying to find wi-fi at different places, and how one day we will be online all the time, everywhere. And how we will tell our kids about having to search for a place to be wireless!

Anyway, I think you said you were coming to Yosemite and Fuller, so let’s hook up. You have a place to stay and some friends who want to take you out. Later

i’ve only been blogging for myself for about a month, but i’m already thinking “how can i post this?” i feel i’m ready to move beyond the surface blogging of crap that’s going on with me, and move on to more “important” topics…i think it might be a natural progression though. you have to start somewhere. we can’t all be amazing all the time…wait - jenlemen.com all amazing, all the time.

keep on blogging adam - i think it’s an awesome community builder and new media. discussions, encouragement, thought-provoking…hell, it’s better than just mindlessly watching tv, right? it’s a way to reach so many more people, you never know who you’re going to find next.

you do a great job - especially with the convention. thanks for posting and photoblogging!

have fun on your road trip!
