Bible*Thumper in Boise
March 30, 2004

Antihell. It’s a clothing company, based out of The Dalles, OR. They always come to the concerts in Boise. I saw plenty of Antihell shirts this evening, including a new one that says BIBLE*THUMPER on the front. I saw a guy wearing it and finally I had to go up and ask him about it. Below is our conversation:
Me: So, you gotta tell me about this shirt here…
Shirt-Guy: Oh, it’s Antihell - it’s bold! My cousin is the owner.
Me: Really…so, why would I want to wear a shirt like that?
Shirt-Guy: Oh, it’s bold! It’s out there…Bible thumper!
Me: Yah, but there are some pretty bad connotations that go along with the idea of a Bible thumper…
Shirt-Guy: Oh, it’s bold! I’m proud to be a Christian!
Me: Well, I’m glad I’m a Christian too, but I don’t want to be viewed as a Bible thumper.
Shirt-Guy: Well, I’m proud to be a Christian, I’m thumping away, and I want people to know!
Me: Interesting…well…thanks (as I walk off)
I really can’t handle this kind of stuff anymore. Apparently because of some miscommunications or other issues, Antihell couldn’t sell their gear at the concert (although two of my girls went out with this guy to his car to get the shirts…they were reprimanded later by one of our female leaders about going out with some guy to his car…) - I guess I’m kind of glad about that. Is that so wrong?

From their website:
“It is our prayer that you enjoy the bold apparel ANTIHELL has to offer.”

I checked the website, and some of the t’s are pretty cool. I wouldn’t wear the bible-thumper shirt, but hey you can’t like every thing a company makes.

Dude - you DO manage to mix it up, don’t you?!

cleave, good effort with trying to figure out t-shirt guy.
as most, i’ve had numerous “they will know we are Christians by our t-shirts” friends (someone was clever enough to actually make that slogan a t-shirt of its own…wish i would have thought of it).
anyway, those t-shirt friends of mine are the exact same people that encourage the youth not to judge other by what they wear, have tatooed, pierced, colored, etc. kind of non sequitur to expect others to learn from your t-shirt, if you don’t learn from their form of self expression.

It’s Bold! Did the guy seriously just say that over and over again? Sounds a bit brainwashed to me. Maybe it’s a cult …

I’ve actually spoken with one of the owners of ANTIHELL before, and he’s a really down-to-Earth, Christ-centered man. If someone did happen to say “It’s bold!!” over and over again, don’t judge the whole brand by it. They aren’t a cult, it’s just a clothing brand, for goodness sakes! Personally, I like most of their shirts, and own 4. Just because you don’t like a design doesn’t mean that it’s not effective ministry.

If you are still thinking about that guy in Boise, that in response to you he could only say it’s Bold. Did you ever think that maybe he was a new Christian. And did not have a better response to the question’s you had for him. You see the term Bible*Thumper is what Christins in the 60’s and 70’s were called. people would say there’s another Bible*Thumper, for reading the Bible, and being open about there faith. So people would try to put them down. Much like the early Church being called Christians (Like Christ) so why would you not want to be a Bibe*Thumper

Hello
Does anyone know if AntiHell went out of business? I checked out their website and it’s blank. I even googled it and the first few links are not antihell.com or antihellclothing.com.
Please, let me know…I bought a few shirts and stickers from them a couple of years ago and I loved them. I need new ones!
