Dinner with Bill
February 24, 2004
Saw a homeless man today, and thought, “I want to have dinner with him.” It’s funny, sometimes you ask a homeless person if you can buy them food (especially when they are holding a sign that says NEED MONEY FOR FOOD) and they’ll flat out deny it. Interesting. Bill didn’t deny me, and we went to Jack In the Box. For some reason, he was really in a fish mood, so he got some fish and chips. We had good conversation. A really nice guy, who had run into a string of bad luck. He grew up with a Presbyterian dad and a LDS mom. Anyway, it was fun to spend some time with a stranger/friend.
Why don’t I do this more? Why don’t we all do this more often… Safety? Discomfort? Why?

Did this some in college, but abadoned it when I got a respectable job as a church staff member. Recently having strong feelings about beginning again, and this is GREAT inspiration. Maybe I’ll make this part of my lent?
