Idaho Monks

Date January 27, 2004

Tomorrow I’m going to spend the night at the Monastery of the Ascension, in Jerome, ID. In the past year, I’ve been there a few times on personal retreat, and my friend Tony and I spent a few days there last summer. The monks are wonderful dear friends. Fr Boniface (pictured on right) is the one who blessed the rosary I got while I was last there. I’ll arrive in time to join them in the Noon prayer, and then enjoy lunch. The afternoon will be spent in prayer and reading, then prayer before dinner, more reading and then the evening prayer, and then bedtime. I’ll wake up for prayer at 6.30am, then the celebration of the Eucharist at 7am, followed by breakfast, and then I’ll leave. It will be what I need; time away from blogging and email and my cell phone. Though it’s less than 24hrs - it will be rejuvenating. If you think about it, pray that I will get a chance to simply rest in God’s presence and hear God’s voice.

Enjoy your time. I did the Sabbath retreat twice with Mark Yac at SFTS. It saved my faith. The comtemplative life is not for everyone, but it should be. Shalom.

Ahhh…aren’t spiritual retreats great? I’ll be praying that your face-to-face time with the Lord will be deeply encouraging and amazingly insightful. God bless you, Adam.
