I promise this is going to be the last “Look, here is Adam doing something else, like, building a snowman, or commenting on Britney Spears or….” kind of blog entry [well, at least for awhile]. Look back tomorrow for some thoughts on Walter Brueggemann’s Texts Under Negotiation.
But, on to my day today. Two farmers from my church took me up north of Fairfield, ID (pop.395) and we ended up at an area called Ditto Flats, gorgeous shots below. It was the perfect day [weather, snow, temp., no one else out] – especially for my first time sledding. I guess once you’re hanging with the “in” crowd, you don’t call these “snowmobiles” – just sleds. And you don’t go “snowmobiling” – you go sledding. Absolutely gorgeous.
I don’t know if you’ve ever been sledding before, but it’s not easy just because the sled “has an engine” [as some people may think]. There is an incredible amount of ‘balance’ that is required when going through powder, which I didn’t realize until I had been stuck quite a few times. When we first started down the trail, one of the guys went up into some powder on the left bank. I tried – got off balance, came back down onto the trail, and then over corrected and then landed down in a creek – a really sucky place to get stuck. Other fun places were near trees and big rocks I almost hit.
It was a perfect day, and the experience of riding, getting stuck and having to rely on these two men to help get me ‘un’stuck gave me the perfect analogy for my cheesy Children’s Sermon this Sunday on the importance of others in our spiritual journey.
Brueggemann tomorrow.
