The Icon of Icons…

My mother is a nurse and has to work every other Christmas, so we broke with tradition this year and opened all our gifts on Christmas Eve. I got some very useful stuff [electric razor, scarf, Guiness mug, and a White-Elephant gift that has been passed down through the Cleaveland family for years].

But one of the coolest gifts was from my mother, and it was actually an icon.

The Holy Trinity, by Andrei Rublev, is known as the Icon of Icons. It’s quite beautiful and I look forward to learning more about it and all of the details and significance of its history.

This is one of my favorite icons of all time. If you want to know more about it (and other icons) I highly recommened getting a copy of Jim Forrest’s “Praying With Icons” There is a whole section in the book that explains the symbolism and history of the Rublev icon.
