1st Church of the Corn Nuts
November 18, 2003
Yesterday after church, I joined 4-5 other families over at another family’s home to make corn nuts. I never knew you could actually make them until last year. We had a great time making corn nuts together.
Later that evening, after paintballing with the youth group, I dropped their daughter off, and spent some time talking with the couple (mid-30s) who hosted the evening. The father was just nominated to be an Elder on Session for our church. He’s nervous because, as he puts it, “I don’t know the Bible real good.” He’s an incredible man, with a huge heart, who simply tells it like it is. I can totally see him sitting there in a Session meeting, listening to all the church politics that go on, and finally blurt out, “This is bullshit.” He’s a cut-to-the-chase kind of guy. Anyway, we were talking about church and some other stuff, when I realized that we really did have church in their house that afternoon. We had about 15-20 people, working, playing, laughing and eating together - we were sharing our lives - sharing joy, love and Christ with each other - all over corn nuts.

Well crap. Since you left a comment on my blog I had to come to your blog and now I have to leave a comment. Look what Andrew’s started.

Hey Darrell, surely this comment section isn’t just about leaving swapping comments from blog to blog. If it were, then Adam would now have to leave a comment on my blog - and you would be well advised to do the same.
Now that I’ve finished my shameless plug ….
I’ve recently finished a 32 day cycling trip with around 50 people across Australia and we found the same thing. We ate together, shared scripture together, had input into each others lives. We were also invloved in a common ministry task. (We were raising funds to distribute scriptures.) We had 32 days of non-stop church.

I love the title of this entry. If I ever saw a sign in front of a church claiming to be any kind of nuts I do believe I’d make my home there. Too bad its just a “corny” blog entry. oh, and there are no strings attached to my comment, I’m still a bonifide blog-free individual. There are a few of us left in the world.

I would want to be on the session with the dad. we need more people like that. But I was disappointed that you didn’t share the recipe of the corn nuts.

Hi Adam, I had that very thing happen about 8 years ago. A new Deacon said that’s BS and boy did the Pastor freak out. He said that that language is not necessary here. A few moments later, and awesome Elder who I think you would really like said, “You know He’s telling the truth their Pastor.” I almost couldn’t contain myself. Hope your trip to Princeton is a great one. OLD GUY
Share the nuts dude!
